Your Life is Now Complete: Howard The Duck DVD Coming in March

A couple of years ago I wrote an article about movies that aren’t yet available on DVD. Even then, the list of movies was pretty damn small, and it has only gotten smaller since. There certainly aren’t many titles on the list that I would consider high art, but regardless I still feel it is important to preserve even the worst cinematic creations on the digital format, if for no other reason then the sake of nostalgia. Which is why I’m absolutely thrilled that the infamous George Lucas-produced bomb Howard The Duck is finally getting a Special Edition DVD this March!

I honestly didn’t think Lucas would ever release the movie since he seems so paranoid about tarnishing his reputation (not like the prequel trilogy hasn’t already done that). Lucasfilm must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel and in need of a quick buck, because not only are they releasing the movie, but Lucas even went back to the vaults to dig up some special features to go with it.

Extras on the DVD will include:

  • A Look Back at Howard the Duck
  • Releasing the Duck
  • News
  • The Stunts of Howard the Duck
  • The Special Effects of Howard the Duck
  • The Music of Howard the Duck

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this movie, and I have to say I’m looking forward to reliving the torture. Man Jeffrey Jones’ character really freaked me out when I was a kid. Look for the DVD in stores on March 10th for a suggested retail price of $14.98 US. It’s available for pre-order on Amazon right now. P.S. Hey George, we also want the Star Wars Holiday Special on DVD by next Christmas!

  1. How funny. I’ve had this on my dvdaf.com wishlist for awhile, and when it changed from “not available” to “announced” i freaked out. this and the back to the future films solidified my early crush on lea thompson (i’m talking 5 years old with a thompson crush). this crush later grew when i would watch Casual Sex on late night cable, and then sort of dwindled when i would watch Caroline in the City. still, i’m buying this on release day.

since that old article about movies n/a on dvd is sort of old, i thought i would list some ones i’m really looking forward to that have never been released:

angus - i loved this movie when i was a kid.

the wild life - awesome cast…chris penn, eric stoltz, lea thompson, rick moranis, and written by cameron crowe! where is this movie on dvd? i made an awful homemade transfer from vhs for my older brother, who loved this movie growing up.

the decline of western civilzation - documentary about the early punk scene, directed by penelope spheeris. there’s a sequel that is about the heavy metal scene which also hasn’t been released. if i’m not mistaken, i don’t think these are even available on vhs currently.

  2. Fuuck. This came out last year in Europe but without any extras. Double dip time I guess.

  3. finally!!!

  4. I saw it in full over the holidays. It’s bad, but it’s nowhere near the most torturous film experience I’ve ever had, and would actually prefer watching this over those two Ewok movies.

Somehow I ended up on Marvel’s “World of Marvel” section the other day, and Howard the Duck has a listing. His attributes/powers are apparently greater than even Phoenix. According to the official ratings, he’s the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe!

  5. How can you turn this one down for $15! And you are right– Jeffrey Jones scared the shit out of me as a kid. Kinda funny, considering his future troubles with the law…

  6. my life was complete when i finally rewatched this as an adult and realized what total excrement it is. i never need to see howard the duck again.

  7. I WANT HOWARD THE DUCK DVD!!! YOU CAN KEEP SHOWING THIS TO GENERATION AFTER GENERATION!!!
