Slumdog Millionaire” has it all, and I am sorely tempted to give it a 10/10

I saw Slumdog Millionaire today. Boyle has really done a good job with this movie. While the movie deals with the gory details of the underbelly of Mumbai, it doesnt really leave you with a sick feeling. The story feels like a commentary and at the end you just feel good about the whole movie. Very well done I must say.

The music score by Rehman is amazing, the actors who played junior Jamal and Salim were the real stars. They were simply too good. Freida Pinto had just 15 mins of screen presence. I think she was overhyped.

It made me sad that The Wrestler wasn’t nominated either, since it was heaps better than anything else that was nominated (save maybe Slumdog Millionaire, which I haven’t seen yet so I can’t judge). Rourke’s acceptance speech was awesome; I loved that instead of thanking God like everyone else does, he thanked his dogs.

Colin Farrell’s win was my one very happy surprise and brought me a brief moment of joy.

I found it really hard to get excited by any of these nominations because they’re all for good but not great films. I fear the Oscar noms will bring more of the same.

I wouldn’t say The Wrestler is WAY too edgy to be nominated, but thinking back to it I can see your point. And since The Reader apparently screams Oscar-bait (according to the RT consensus), I don’t know why I was surprised.

I still don’t understand why The Wrestler wasn’t up for best picture. I haven’t seen The Reader, but from what I have gathered, it didn’t really deserve to be in there. I am happy that Slumdoggy did so well though, especially Danny Boyle’s win.

I’m pretty sure its not. I’m basing this off of pro wrestling actually. Whenever Stone Cold Steve Austin would actually flip the bird he would get his fingers blurred out, and yet when he would enter the ring and flipped the crowd as part of his turnbuckle stance they would not. Then I realized he was flipping “in reverse”, as shown in this lame piece of fan art:

Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock presented a Best Actress in a Television Drama award to Rogue. That was the highlight for me.
