Green Street Hooligans 2 Trailer

A few years ago, there was a wave of movies coming out of the U.K. that focused on the football hooligan phenomenon (ie. organized gangs of soccer fans who beat the living crap out of rival supporters). I’ve seen two of these flicks: The Football Factory and Green Street Hooligans, the latter of which I preferred despite the fact that it is somewhat Americanized (it does star Elijah Wood after all). I know some people had problems with the authenticity of Green Street Hooligans, but something tells me that these people are going to have an even harder time accepting the sequel Green Street 2: Stand Your Ground.
Director Lexi Alexander is not involved, nor are Elijah Wood or most of the other cast members. I believe the only returning actor is Ross McCall, whose character Dave is among those thrown in jail after being caught in the first film. In prison, the rivalry between opposing clubs continues, and eventually leads to a brutal football match-up between prisoners to settle their differences. Richard at Filmstalker is dead on in comparing this to Death Race. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the reality of hooliganism, and the fact that it is focuses primarily on showing actual scenes of firm members playing soccer is further proof as to just how false this movie truly is! Check out the trailer for Green Street 2 below and see what you think.

Actually, Lexi Alexander is involved as she is listed as ’story by’ and ‘exec producer’. This movie, like Punisher’ clearly proves what many people said about her after Green Street Hooligans, that she is over hyped, under talented and extremely lucky.
Thankfully, the truth is finally starting to hit home.
Posted by Paul on January 5th, 2009Weird. I read somewhere that the first movie was actually based partially on her own experiences growing up because her brother was a football hooligan in Germany or something. Somehow I doubt this one is based on personal experience.
Posted by Sean on January 5th, 2009That was all PR hype and came about because her co-writer on the first movie -the former hooligan Dougie Brimson- walked off after a serious of rows with her about changes she wanted to make to the script.
Once he had gone, they realised that they had no one with any hooligan background to do the publicity for the movie so they invented one. Proof of that can be found in the fact that if you read some of her interviews, they contain statements which are lifted from Brimsons books almost word for word.
Posted by Paul on January 6th, 2009That’s huge misinterpretation of the story I wrote about it, I’m not “dead on comparing this to Death Race” I said it was like Death Race with football hooligans.
Whether they are playing soccer or not is irrelevant, the original film was trying to show what makes people turn to this type of thing, what makes people interested in becoming a hooligan and what that actually means.
This film just seems to be violence in a prison, a prison that looks to be set nowhere in Britain and looks more like glorifying violence rather than trying to understand the reasoning behind it and looking at those involved.
Posted by Richard Brunton (Filmstalker) on January 6th, 2009I don’t think I was interpreting anything you wrote other than to say that I agree that it reminded me of Death Race as an over the top action movie set in a prison.
I was more joking about the fact that they actually play soccer, because in other movies I’ve seen, they almost never actually watch or play soccer — it’s clearly secondary to the brawling.
Posted by Sean on January 6th, 2009This looks like utter shit. And a joke as well.
Posted by swarez on January 6th, 2009Ugh… The first film was ok. This looks like utter tripe. It dosn’t even look like its set in England!
Posted by bigjigwig77 on January 6th, 2009I do like the poster though.
Posted by swarez on January 7th, 2009Ah, okay Sean, my apologies. I thought you were suggesting that I said it was just like Death Race and you were taking a defensive view of the film.
In that case I’m with you now!
Posted by Richard Brunton (Filmstalker) on January 7th, 2009This movie looks like absolute garbage. I sure hope it’s direct to DVD as it ticks all the boxes of an unwanted sequel. Looks like an even worse, unfunny Longest Yard.
Posted by stevie_boy on January 9th, 2009Having watched that “trailer”, I feel the need to be reimbursed already. Who watched this and decided that it was good to go? I don’t thing Blu-Ray should accept this movie into its format. Forget DVD, straight to VHS.
Posted by malibu on January 12th, 2009THIS FILM LOOKS GOOD ASLONG AS IS STILL ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY HAMMERS THEN ITS GOOD, AND WHAT U SAYING SOCCER FOR!! ITS FOOTBALL!!!!!!!
Posted by Will Mason on January 26th, 2009So this is nothing like what i expected the second one to be like…its not the same without Bovver…
Posted by Michele on February 3rd, 2009How many green streets are der…?(ye av me confused)
Posted by Judge on February 3rd, 2009When it will appear.?
Posted by DoubleT on February 22nd, 2009I have only watched the trailer(see below) and to me looks like a Mean Machine (Vinne Jones) re-make. The big question I have is why are there British hooligans and British prison guards in a prison located in the USA? Who wrote this script and approved it?
I should hold judgement and go see this movie before writing anymore, but this looks worse than the first GSH movie. I am not sure if I can handle wasting a few hours of my life on a cheap sequel. So those of you who was expecting a review from me, please don’t hold your breath. I’d rather watch Football Factory again for the 100th time. No wonder that it is being released straight to DVD in the USA.
We will treat this movie like Ghostbusters 2….it doesn’t exist in our minds.
Posted by Nick on February 26th, 2009Just watched the movie. Was alright, but it wasnt Green Street.
If i compare it to the previous movie, or any other film like this…its terrible.
Posted by secret on March 6th, 2009no es lo mismo, la banda del west ham sin bower no existe, VAMOS BOWER!!
Posted by Martin on March 7th, 2009Having been born in London and a West Ham fan from birth I thought the first Green St. was scarily close to the truth. This new movie looks (from the trailer) to be a load of Americanised cr@p. If you want to see another descent film about the boys surrounding the Hammers watch Cass, not even going to bother with GS2.
Posted by Stu on March 8th, 2009Come on you Irons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is Charlie hunnam (Pete) in this one?
Posted by Brian on March 8th, 2009this is no where near what GS2 should have been like. utter shit! comon you yids!
Posted by Yid Army on March 9th, 2009this movie is based on real things but has lost it’s connection to reality
Posted by marc kng on March 10th, 2009What real things, a load of cockneys in an american desert prison ? Or orange jumpsuits and sand in pentonville ? WTF ?
Posted by Stu on March 14th, 2009i thought this movie was good but i LOVE ross mccall so i may be biased….he was amazing in Band of Brothers.
Posted by staci on March 16th, 2009This film is pathetic i wonder what people get paid for and who ever made this should never make a film again! prison set in america somewhere and besides the weather being nothin like in england, the jail itself looks like an american jail. All the stars from green street are missing except 1 of the lads who had a smaller role in the film. the story has nothing to do with the 1st film and is just fighting in a prison i turned it off after 20minutes as none of it is believable…….pathetic
Posted by Jamie on March 16th, 2009I don’t think this is EVER gonna be as good as the first one, it’s a classic, and i hate that they change all the characters, really confuses me, and the old characters played em soo well
x
Posted by Laurenn on March 17th, 2009Just watched this film and yeah the desert thing is bolocks and as far as a GS2 goes, they should hav just made this a totally different film and not a follow up.
My advice if anyone wants to watch this is dont look at it as GS2, instead just think of it as a violent prison film and its not as bad
Posted by Neil on March 26th, 2009gwarrrrrrrnnn wid dat gggg********* wat blud clart ill bang them man get me blud
Posted by bob on March 27th, 2009who the hell lets yanks get involved with footie films, this film aint that bad but its not much to do with green street, speaking of which, who let a frickin hobbit into a footie game? Generally not as good as football factory, but the ultimate hooligan film is I.D.
Posted by wtf on March 28th, 2009This is well and truly the worst film ever made. They could have just filmed a fight for an hour and a half. Any real football hooligan who has the misfortune to watch this will be pissed off. Why was it set in an american prison but supposed to be english? And since when can you play a football game to get out? And who wrote the dialogue? It is shocking, especially the scene with the main guy and his bird when she visiting him in prison. The bad thing is I will never get that hour and a half of my life back…. If you are reading this and are considering watching it DON’T… actually do i want you to feel my pain.
Posted by Nathan on April 8th, 2009i am in tears!
Posted by darryl jeal on April 11th, 2009the first film is one of my fav films of all time….fantastic story..great cast…and wonderfuly made. Watched this and WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH!..i’m gutted!…why was it made in the USA? where are all the original characters?…why only feature ‘dave’ ( who only had a small part in GS1 anyway?…i just don’t get it…so disappointed, this film should hav never have been made, don’t waste your time on it. Gutted
I loved the first green street hooligans. one of the best movies ive ever seen but they should have stopped there. without elijah and since pete died in the first movie its just not gunna be worth seein
Posted by Grant on April 13th, 2009umm i would like to know when it will be released in australia could anyone answer that for me thank you because i never new that there was a green street hooligans 2 please write back
Posted by michael on April 22nd, 2009The first movie was horrendous because it was totally ruined by the lead actor who had the worst cockney accent I have EVER heard. It would be like having a movie set in the Bronx and getting an actor from Texas to play an Italian-American gangster. Dog shit.
This movie is sooooooo bad it has to be a joke. Because:
- Its been filmed in LA or somewhere
- The head of the Prison is Australian
- The extras all look like Mexican gang bangers
- The script is awful along with the acting
It makes no sense at all, its not in East London and has nothing to do with the ICF. It makes the first look like Casablanca.
Posted by Bongo Murphy on May 14th, 2009The worst thing is that there are no cloudy shots in this movie… Come on, every english film has 50% of scenes “without sun”!
Posted by BlasiFox on May 17th, 2009It doesn’t look like it was set in England.
