Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li Japanese Trailer

I have to admit, I really don’t have much to say about Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. It’s another video game movie, and one based on a fighting game at that. It may have been written by brilliant young scribe Justin Marks, but it’s also being directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Doom). I am assuming it will turn out better than the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme flick, but that’s if that’s the only goal for this movie, then they’re setting the bar pretty damn low.

A Japanese trailer for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li found its way online this week, and although it’s not overly insightful, it does make one thing very clear: there will be a lot of fighting in this movie. Kristen Kreuk (Smallville) looks the part as Chun-Li, but other than that I really have no opinion on this. Anyone out there looking forward to this movie? Is this trailer everything you had hoped for?

  1. This looks like it came out in 1998.

No hadokens and all lightning kicks makes Street Fighter a dull movie.

  2. Chun-Li and Blanka were my favourite Street Fighter characters. This looks like a “B” movie at best. Kristen Kreuck? Why? Are you telling me there is no authentic Chinese girls out there better suited for the role?

  3. Kristen Kreuk’s background is actually half-Chinese. It would be tough to find a Chinese actress who is as familiar to North American audiences as Kreuk is.

  4. Sean…no halfzis….its either full or not at all :D Its probably the only reason they used her because some teeny bopper will recognize her. The movie studios are anticipating more profit because of this, but if the movie sucks, well….I’d rather go with authenticity. She doesn’t do it for me.

  5. Tomas, we finally disagree on something. Kristin Kreuk does it for me. And I’m no teeny bopper.

She did a great job at showing vulnerability on Smallville; however, when Lana Lang (her character) started acting tough and fighting people, she was less believable, but maybe that was because it just seemed strange for her character. I miss her on Smallville.

I wonder if I’ll believe her as Chun-Li.

That is my point! I do not dislike her, only that she’s playing Chun-Li.

  7. Will there be parts in the movie where you can pause it and see up Chun-Li’s skirt? I’m disappointed she’s not wearing the Chun-Li outfit.

  8. Joel….that we know of. It may seem corny, but that should be part of the character’s charm. It should be meant to disarm her opponents.
