I’ll admit that I was kind of “winging it” with the different categories, but the foreign film category was based on movies that were non-English language, and also produced outside of the U.S. Slumdog Millionaire is a U.K. production and half in Hindi language, while JCVD is a Belgian/French production.

The Dark Knight shouldn’t have the best film of the year award. I’m tired of everyone making such a big deal out of a movie that really didn’t bring that much to the table. Don’t get me wrong I loved it, but there’s other movies that were much better.

Who voted for RAMBO to make it a runner up? Really!? Rambo is better than Doomsday or Hancock?

Also, I didn’t even consider “Slumdog” to be foreign. I suppose it is sort of, but people need to get out and see “4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days.” They’ll be emailing Sean frantically demanding to change their vote.

There is never going to be a ‘best of’ list that we all agree on, but I think this one shows how some categories had didn’t have much to shout about. Best Scifi/Fantasy goes to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, yet it also manages to scoop up the ‘Biggest Disappointment’ award. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is considered to be the best comedy and yet it was hardly a chortle fest, but still admittedly better than the one laugh an hour of Pineapple Express.
Overall I get the feeling that the year started with a torrent of great releases, but then towards the end of the year this turned into a dribble of slightly better than rubbish releases.

is slumdog millionaire a foreign film?
what really makes a film “foreign” ?
are all us films foreign to canadians?
i think the catagorey is stupid.
a film is a film anywhere its made.
and if its a matter of language, would JCVD not be foreign flick in those parts of canada that speak french as their primary language?
its all confusing and a bit nationalistic, i propose it be stricken from all future catagorical film voting systems.
