Monday Morning Box Office Report: Marley Poops on Adam Sandler’s Floor

Early on it looked like Adam Sandler’s family comedy Bedtime Stories was poised to take the holiday box office throne, but in the end it was the screen adaptation of Josh Grogan’s Marley & Me that did the most business, earning a total of $51.7 million in its first 5 days — $14.75 million of which came on Christmas Day alone, setting a new record. Bedtime Stories was at #2, with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button hot on its heels, followed by Valkyrie and Yes Man. The negative buzz surrounding The Spirit seems to have relegated it to the #9 spot, while Doubt held down the #10 spot with a solid per screen average.

1. Marley & Me — $37M
2. Bedtime Stories — $28.1M
3. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — $27.2M
4. Valkyrie — $21.5M
5. Yes Man — $16.4M
6. Seven Pounds — $13.4M
7. The Tale of Despereaux — $9.37M
8. The Day the Earth Stood Still — $7.9M
9. The Spirit — $6.51M
10. Doubt — $5.67M

  1. The only movie that I half way liked with Sandler in it, was “The Wedding Singer”. Between watching him and Owen Wilson….Owen for the win, although this movie seems sort of childish.
