Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death Premieres on BBC Christmas Day

After the disappointing performance of the animated film Flushed Away back in 2006, Dreamworks decided to end their partnership with U.K.-based Aardman Animations, thus leaving the big screen future of the beloved claymation characters Wallace & Gromit somewhat unknown. Soon afterward it was announced that a new Wallace & Gromit sequel was in development, but it wasn’t clear if it would be a feature film follow-up to The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature back in 2005). Now, a year and a half later, we finally have our new Wallace & Gromit flick!

The slightly disappointing news is that it’s just another 30 minute made-for-TV short in the style of the original “trilogy” (A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave). The good news is that it will be airing on BBC One on Christmas Day, and technically speaking, it already premiered on TV in Australia (and may or may not have found its way onto the internet. Ahem.). The movie is called A Matter of Loaf and Death and is a comedic murder mystery, with Wallace and Gromit starting up a baking business only to find that all the bakers in town are being mysteriously killed one by one. Once again, it’s up to Gromit to save his unwitting friend Wallace from would be assassins. I, for one, can’t wait to see what witty baking puns they come up with for this installment. You can check out the trailer below (although not in Canada, apparently), and for more info visit the official website.
