The Crow Gets a Franchise Reboot from the Director of Blade

The “reboot” buzzword is being uttered around Hollywood once again this morning, with Relativity Media in talks to acquire the rights to restart The Crow franchise. For many people, The Crow franchise ended with the terrible sequel The Crow: City of Angels… alas, the series continued on for years after that with a TV series and two more sequels starring Eric Mabius and Edward Furlong respectively. Certainly they could have done more with it, but I don’t know how people will react to the idea of remaking the original.
The man they have brought on board to write and direct is a little bit worrisome: Stephen Norrington, who directed the first Blade, and also The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (ugh). He was also supposed to do Clash of the Titans remake, but was later replaced by Louis Leterrier. Here is Norrington’s vague comments on his vision for the series: “Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style”. I’m guessing the point is to try and make it as believable as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, but with The Crow I think I kind of prefer the stylized version. What do you think, does The Crow need a reboot?
