Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Day The Earth Stood Still Still Stands

When all was said and done, The Day The Earth Stood Still remake managed to take the weekend box office crown, although the numbers were probably not as high as Keanu would have liked. It grossed just $31 million in its first few days of release, despite the fact that it had no real competition — a fact echoed by Four Christmases remaining in second after three weeks with another $13 million. Repeat business for Twilight, Bolt and Australia rounded out the top 5. Nothing Like the Holidays was a disappointing 7th with just $3.5 mil, and Delgo a distant 16th with $916 K. Hey, it’s tough to compete with the big boys if you don’t have any money to advertise. Both Milk and Slumdog Millionaire continue to have great per screen averages, and I don’t understand why they’re taking so long to roll them out further… audiences are desperate for something good to watch right about now!
