First Photo of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

As you’ve probably already heard, Gambit is one of the mutants that will be making his first live action appearance in the upcoming X-Men spin-off, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I have no idea how he even fits into the story, to be honest; it seems pretty obvious that his inclusion was simply to satisfy all the fans who had been begging for him to be a part of X-Men 3.
Anyway, the Ragin’ Cajun will be played in the movie by Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) and the latest issue of Empire Magazine reveals the first official photo of him in the movie. I don’t usually get too worked up about early photos of characters in films, but this certainly doesn’t look like any Gambit I remember. I guess maybe the whole trench coat get up would look odd in real life (and who knows, maybe he does eventually wear it in the movie), but this image of a slick and sexy poker player just gives me a bad vibe of what’s to come with this flick. Comic book fans, sound off in the comments below!

he’s sitting at a table playing poker. hardly battle outfit worthy. i dont see any point in judging anything based on this.
Posted by Goon on December 1st, 2008I don’t understand why this picture was even published, he just looks like some dude with a deck of cards. All of the pictures from Wolverine have been lame so far, for example, the movie blog posted pictures of wolverine in the new movie, but it’s just him in a white t-shirt with his claws out looking mad. Thats been in 3 other movies! We’ve all pretty much seen that picture before! These pictures are nothing special.
Posted by Drew on December 1st, 2008I still think it should be Sawyer from “Lost.” He was born to play Gambit. Maybe to old for origins, though.
Posted by Jon Rocks on December 1st, 2008Agreed with Goon. Why would he need that trench right now? I also agree with Drew…studios are really braindead when it comes to releasing good teaser stills.
I think it’s very appropriate that Remy LeBeau would rock a purple silk shirt and gamble. I’m guessing his eyes turn black w/ red pupils only when he’s using his kinetic energy? That’s probably the best way to go for live-action.
I think Ryan Reynolds is good for Deadpool…and this Taylor Kitsch guy looks the part. Only things: that videotaped trailer that used to be on youtube seemed kind of lame. Also “X-Men Origins”…ugh. Why don’t they realize no one else has an origin worthy of it’s own movie?
P.S. Sean, that Magneto movie is dead in the water…I saw that on JoBlo or Ain’t It Cool News or something. The article had an actual quote from some producer or writer.
Posted by Ryan M. on December 1st, 2008I don’t know about that, according to this fairly recent article, it’s still in production:

Posted by Sean on December 1st, 2008yeah this just looks like some random bro playing cards. can’t really base much off it …
Posted by Joel on December 2nd, 2008its gambit with a bunch of cards what ells needs to be said lol.
Posted by paulieq on December 2nd, 2008You know what bothers me? It’s when people expect the characters to look EXACTLY like the comic book. If the storyline will be good, then that’s all that matters. I, for one, am just happy that they FINALLY put Gambit in the movie!
Posted by Vada Laylene on March 23rd, 2009Not trying to dog anyone out, but could you at least wait until AFTER the movie comes out before you start blabbing about the actor? I,for one, think Gambit is going to be great in this movie. When I saw the previews for the theater while going to see the new Friday the 13th, the trailer looked awesome and so did Gambit. I don’t know much about Taylor besides him being in The Covenant, but I have a good feeling that he is going to do a great job. Give him a break. Damn.
