Film Junk Poll: Who is the Best Current Action Movie Star?
Action movies certainly aren’t what they used to be, but as the genre has evolved over the years, we’ve seen a new generation of action stars take over the screen. Gone are the days of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal, and even though some of these guys are still making movies, they are no longer the kings of the box office. Instead they have been replaced by less bulky actors who are either insanely skilled in martial arts or just plain charismatic. But who is the current reigning king of today’s action movie world? I’ve left out some of the older guys even though some of them have had recent movies (ie. Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford), but feel free to nominate more choices in the comments below!

Gerard Butler is my pick for Action films. Looking forward to seeing him in ‘Game’ from the same directors who made Crank.
Posted by aimie on November 28th, 2008Probably have to go with Statham just for the sheer volume. I do like Craig’s Bond and enjoy DTRJ in the action flicks he’s done. I’d have to say after seeing The Condemned I’d like to see Stone Cold do a few more. Esspecially if his character is “from a little fishin’ village about 40 miles North of Anchorage.”

Posted by ColinZeal on November 28th, 2008Well are you voting for Damon because of the Bourne movies where he doesn’t have any personality or make any puns, and is some kind of superman in an otherwise realistically covoluted world, OR D. Craig because he played Bond twice in what is really just one story? I don’t know man it’s only embarrassing if it’s mean’t to be funny and it’s not. Most of these action movies ostensibly “bad” action movies are funny and stupid and great not embarrassing. That’s more the realm of a bad comedy like something from Mike Myers or Adam Sandler.

I like Crank well enough actually, but I haven’t touched anything else and don’t really want to. Even though a lot of people like the first two Transporter movies, and the Bank Job is supposedly really good, I just don’t care.
Posted by Goon on November 29th, 2008Jackie Chan will be the best until he dies…yeah I know his recent string of Hollywood movies blow but go see: Drunken Master, Young Master, Dragons Forever, Police Story, Wheels On Meals, Project A….the list goes on and on. No one has achieved what he did and nowadays (especially cause of CG) no one ever will.
I’m just not understanding why people hate on Statham so much.

And hey, The Forbidden Kingdom was actually pretty damn good if you accept it for what it really is (essentially a modern Never Ending Story type of film). Runner-up: Jet Li.
