Back to the Future 2-Disc Special Edition DVD Gets a Release Date

As much as DVD double dips are a slap in the face to collectors, sometimes you can’t help shelling out again for new and improved edition of one of your favourite movies of all time. So when Universal announced a new 2-disc Special Edition DVD for Back to the Future, I knew I might just have to suck it up and spend the extra money anyway. The problem is that there is no mention of a Blu-ray release as of yet. We’ve heard previously that a Blu-ray release of the Back to the Future Trilogy is in the works, so it’s going to be tough to decide whether or not to hold off on this.
Special features include:
- Audio commentary with Producers Bob Gale and Neil Canton
- Q&A with Director Robert Zemeckis and Producer Bob Gale
- Enhanced Conversation with Michael J. Fox
- Deleted scenes
- Outtakes
- Original makeup tests
- Making of Back to the Future featurette
- Back to the Future: The Ride feature
- Looking Back to the Future documentary
- Excerpts from the screenplay
- Trailers
I’m not sure exactly how much of this stuff is new (I think the documentary is), but they seem to be advertising the “Back To The Future: The Ride” stuff as if it’s a big deal. I don’t know about that. Back To The Future Part II and Part III will also be available individually for the first time, but with the same extras as the Trilogy. Look for these discs in stores on February 10th, 2009.

The documentary IS in the Trilogy Release. The only thing new I see here is that Back to the Future: The Ride feature. I’m a HUUUGE fan of this series, but I’m not sure if this one feature is enough for me to re-buy it. Call me crazy, but I’d rather buy the complete animated series which is STILL not out on DVD.
Posted by ShenEvil44 on November 26th, 2008Producer commentary is rarely engaging…I’ll definitely wait for BD (and they better not release a trilogy only set cause I’ll never be watching Part 3. They did that w/ The Matrix and I hate them).

and Ryan…Part 3 rocks.

Punch out the bad guy, and get a big truck.

Posted by Bob The Slob on November 26th, 2008The “Looking Back to the Future documentary” is new, but what sucked is they just took excerpts from the feature length documentary concerning only to the first movie.
