This Week on DVD: Hancock, 24: Redemption, Bottle Rocket Criterion Collection

It looks like this week’s only major DVD release is Big Willie Styles in Hancock… unless you also consider major disasters like Eddie Murphy’s Meet Dave to be major releases too. Other new titles hitting store shelves this week are the animated CG flick Space Chimps, last year’s minor holiday hit Fred Claus starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti, and the long-awaited Criterion version of Wes Anderson’s Bottle Rocket. Unfortunately Jay C. informs me that the Blu-ray release was pushed back to December 16th. What are you picking up this week?
Hancock (DVD, Blu-ray)
Space Chimps (DVD, Blu-ray)
Fred Claus (DVD, Blu-ray)
Meet Dave (DVD, Blu-ray)
Fronterz
Slap Shot 3: The Junior League
Bottle Rocket: Criterion Collection (DVD)

I’m really interested in seeing what the original Bottle Rocket short was like (along with commentary & the making-of doc) but I’ll wait for BD.
Just had a horrible thought…a Criterion Collection BD will probably cost 50 bux…I’ll definitely have to flix it.
Posted by Ryan M. on November 25th, 2008Actually, the blurays cost the same as DVD, though the DVD are way overpriced at $40.
Posted by joe on November 25th, 2008ps that’s the US price
Posted by joe on November 25th, 2008Picked up Bottle Rocket, was thinking of getting the Colbert Christmas DVD but i torrented it and it was a one-time watcher… the dvd apparently has a very cool advent calender feature with lots of new material, but meh.
The Bottle Rocket booklet is pretty damn cool, its the notebook of Dignans 75 year plan and essays from Martin Scorsese and James L Brooks.
Posted by Goon on November 25th, 2008I got Bottle Rocket as well – first I went to Best Buy, who isn’t carrying it in store, then I went to Barnes and Noble, which didn’t have it either. I tried Circuit City, but they have a shitty DVD selection. I finally found it at Fry’s, and it’s awesome.
