Ever since Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez made retro cool again with Grindhouse, there have been a lot of filmmakers out there trying to pay tribute to the genres of days gone by. I have to admit, when I first heard about Black Dynamite I was picturing something a little more amateurish, goofy and self-aware, but after watching this new red band trailer for the flick, I have to admit that it looks like a blast. Writer/director Scott Sanders just may have created a new blaxploitation classic here, starring Michael Jai White (Spawn) and yes, Arsenio Hall, if you can believe it.

Black Dynamite will premiere at Sundance in January, so it will be interesting to see if the movie itself is actually as fun as the trailer, or if this will disappoint in much the same way that Hell Ride did.
