Resident Evil Degeneration First 8 Minutes and DVD Release Date

With Resident Evil 5 scheduled to hit stores next March, and no more live action movies on the horizon (yet), Resident Evil fans will have to settle for an upcoming CG animated feature film if they want to get their RE fix sometime this year. Resident Evil: Degeneration premiered at the Tokyo Game Show last month, and also plays at the New York City Horror Festival today (Nov. 13th), followed by a screening in L.A. on November 18th. Most of us, however, will have to wait for it to be released on DVD and Blu-ray just after Christmas on December 30th.

IGN has posted the first 8 minutes of the movie online along with a new red band trailer, and they reveal what most of us suspected all along: the movie is basically just a glorified video game cinematic. The actual graphics look impressive, but the animation and voice acting are certainly not good enough to warrant a theatrical release. I understand that it’s supposed to be more of a promotional tie-in for the upcoming game than a full-blown motion picture, but I still feel like this is kind of a wasted opportunity. I’ve never been a big fan of the live action RE flicks, but I thought this might have had potential. Either way, I’ll probably check it out at some point, but I’m not expecting much. Watch the first 8 minutes of the movie below and see what you think.

  1. There is indeed a fourth Resident Evil film on the way.

  2. As far as I know, I don’t think it’s confirmed or anything. Paul W.S. Anderson just said he’s thinking about writing a script for it at some point.

  3. Didn’t he say he was writing one? Oh well I’m sure it will happen at some point.

I don’t know if I can sit through a CG film like this, the animation is too stiff. Funny that the promo stuff for Resident Evil 5 looks better than this.

  4. I just need a copy of RE5 in my PS3 right now. Favorite. Series. Ever. Also, P.W.S.A. hoovers testicles.

  5. What Swarez said. The animation sucks for a full length film.

  6. So I got that they wanted to make it have a game appeal. But really it has Game level Graphics and it needs a MOVIE level CG graphics.
It looks at about the same (or perhaps lower quality) than Final Fantasy: Spirits within and that was a 2001 movie.

    Otherwise I can’t wait.
