Jerry Garcia Biopic Coming from the Producers of Little Miss Sunshine

What’s that you say? You just can’t get enough of these music biopics? Well, it’s you’re lucky day, because we’ve got another one in development, this time from the producers of Election, Little Children and Little Miss Sunshine. Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa and Eric Eisner are putting together a movie about Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia, based on the book Dark Star by Robert Greenfield. It will focus on the early years of Garcia’s life in his teens and early 20’s, back before he actually formed the Grateful Dead, drawn from interviews with musicians, relatives and friends who knew him. Topper Lilien (Dungeons & Dragons) has been hired to write the script.
Although I’m not much of a Grateful Dead fan, I can certainly see how Garcia’s life might be worth telling on the big screen. Based on some of the previous films that these guys have produced, you might think that this would have a comedic element as well (which would probably get me more interested) but I don’t really think that’s a part of the plan. What will probably disappoint Deadheads the most is the fact that the Dead’s music will not be found anywhere in the film. Instead, they will use primarily bluegrass songs from the public domain that Garcia used to play back in the day. Are you interested in seeing a Jerry Garcia biopic? Who do you think would be the best choice for the lead role?

Wow, finally a music biopic I have no interest in! The Dead’s music puts me to sleep, so I’ll be avoiding this one unless I see a spectacular trailer for it that gives me the impression it’s a can’t miss movie.
I want to see Eugene Levy in the starring role.

It’s a ploy for the GD CashCow!
How boring.

Jerry’s life is definitely worth learning about. Yuppie whining like this won’ be able to ruin what will be a great movie and experience I’m sure.
