Statham and Stallone to Star in The Expendables

Looks like we may finally have some details on one of the upcoming action movies that Sylvester Stallone signed on to write and direct for Nu Image/Millennium Films earlier this year. At the time, it was rumoured that this might be a Rambo sequel, and although Rambo V is still possible, this particular project is something slightly different (”slightly” being the key word).
The flick is called The Expendables, and it will star Stallone himself alongside current action stars Jason Statham and Jet Li. The plot is about a team of mercenaries on who embark on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator. Further details are hard to come by, but it should be interesting to see if audiences still respond to Stallone in a non-nostalgia, non-franchise situation (Rambo grossed $113 million worldwide). Hey, as long as it’s still rated-R and full of gory dismemberments and headshots, I don’t think I’ll be able to help myself. How interested are you in The Expendables?

The title seems about right. I could do without all these guys. Stallone needs to hang it up. His freakish appearance is just too distracting.
Posted by Zuguide on November 6th, 2008Actually sounds cool (possibly just because all of these guys were in awesome action movies).
Stallone actually did a good job w/ Rambo. All we needed was gore.
Posted by Ryan M. on November 6th, 2008I can’t wait, I have only recently heard of this film in the works, I want to be on board with the team involved. I know Sly is due to make a new spot in the film world for the next generation or movies viewers. I’m a Director/Editor getting my feet wet in the industry and I would love to have a chance to work with Stallone.

Well!
I don’t know about Sly’s films, which you can enjoy if you love just pure gore, and his amazingly ‘brain damaged’ sounding tone.
Jet Li and Jason however we’re fantastic together in both ‘War’ and ‘The One’ and both perform most if not all of their own stunts, so getting them both on board will make for a fantastic visual experience, and some spectacular fight scenes.
