Of this list I have to say The Exorcist but The Changeling and Exorcist 3 are far scarier than that.
But a film hasn’t scared me since I was a child, Nightmare on Elm Street freaked me out as a kid but that went away after I saw it again later on. The last time I got a good tense feeling at the cinema was watching The Descent.
Posted by swarez on October 31st, 2008I voted for THE RING (still freaks me out just to think of it) as a whole film but THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE might have some of the scariest SCENES in a movie. Her twisted body, those freaky giggles (oh CRAP a goose walked over my grave) and the whole exorcism… And yet I”ve never seen a horror movie that I’ve wanted to re-watch over and over again. Masochist…
Posted by Juan Carlo on October 31st, 2008Hands down, the original Shutter. A friend and I have watched a ton of horror movies together and we agree it’s the scariest.
Posted by joe on October 31st, 2008Prince of Darkness is THE scariest movie I’ve ever seen. But in loue of that selection, the scariest movie of this poll has got to be Silence of the Lambs. The night vission scene is just too creepy and whole movie is just too twisted.
Posted by Matt on October 31st, 2008Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is the scariest movie I have ever seen, people are going to mock me for saying that but i stand by it.
Posted by Drew on October 31st, 2008I had to go with the Ring. I saw this in the theater with a friend and at the time I was single and living alone. I used to fall alseep in front of the TV every night because I had trouble sleeping. Well I was too freaked to fall asleep in front of the TV that night and I actually kept most of my apartment lights on that night.
Posted by Itchy-finger on October 31st, 2008This is definitely the movie that scared me the most. But if I had to pick a movie in the list that was my favorite I would have to go with The Descent.
The Shining.
Posted by Jeff on October 31st, 2008I don’t usually find horror movies scary because they’re too campy and ridiculous, which is why I don’t spend much time watching them. The scariest movie I’ve ever seen isn’t usually included on lists like this: Deliverance. That’s the only movie that I can think of that has ever scared the crap out of me.
Posted by Liz on October 31st, 2008The first horror movie I ever remember seeing was The Fly with Vincent Price. I don’t remember how old I was, but I convinced my parents to watch it with me on television. It gave me nightmares for years.
A couple of years later when I was still a kid, I watched William Castle’s Straight-Jacket with Joan Crawford. My older cousin was with me and made fun of me. I haven’t seen this film since, but it’s probably more graphic in my mind than it actually is.
I think I had to use a night light way later than most kids normally do.
As an adult, the film that creeps me out the most is a Japanese film called Audition. I wonder why that hasn’t been remade since it’s been critically acclaimed.
Nowadays when I go to sleep alone after watching a horror movie, I need a blanket to cover my body and head.

Posted by Matthias Galvin on October 31st, 2008That is the scariest film of all time.
From this list I went with Blair Witch, but personally I found Session 9 and Them (Ils) very scary. The Descent would have been my second choice. I found The Exorcist shocking and creepy, but not scary.
Posted by ottobud on October 31st, 2008The power of Christ compelled me to pick The Exorcist.
I haven’t found movies truly scary since I hit puberty though.

Funny you should mention that. Me and my friend wrote a treatment for the proposed remake for Audition a couple of years ago. Nothing came out of it and I think the producer still has the rights but I think the story is just way too shocking for American mainstream audiences.
Posted by swarez on October 31st, 2008Any of the “Road Trip Gone Wrong” flicks always have an element to being scary because they can happen.
I picked BLAIR WITCH PROJECT as being the most creative too.
Posted by Baychuk on November 1st, 2008the scariest movie of all time is:
Enron: the Smartest Guys in the Room.
Posted by Goon on November 1st, 2008Personally, I’ve never found any of the movies on the poll scary. I voted for Texas Chainsaw because I think that it’s the most disturbing of all the ones on the list. When I was a kid I was scared by Killer Klowns From Outer Space and It, but I can’t remember ever really being scared by any other movies. I was one of those kids who loved monster movies, and I still do to this day. As such, I’m rarely scared by movies. Recently I think that The Mist was the film which filled me the most with a feeling of dread, but that’s not the same as being frightened. It was all about the tension and mood and not so much fear.
Posted by Rian on November 3rd, 2008I chose TBW. It’s the only movie that scared me as an adult.
Posted by Mathiius Suiihtam on November 4th, 2008When I was a kid I was pretty scared of a few scenes in An American Werewolf in London ie the boys being stalked, then attacked at the start, and the stalking in the tube/subway, Nazi werewolf dream even tho it lasts about 4 frames!
These days most scares are shocks from overly loud audio cues.
The Birds also freaked me out as a kid. Rightly so!
exorsist 1 was pretty crap.the ring scared thd daylites outta me.and i had some old neighbours frm china who had a movie similar to the exorcist but it was spoken in asian… That scarred me for about a year haha does any1 know the name
Posted by bobby on November 23rd, 2008bobby, I can’t think of any Chinese movie that is similar to The Exorcist. Was the Chinese movie set in the olden days with period costumes? Maybe you’re thinking of A Chinese Ghost Story. That was popular. But I haven’t seen it. Ha-ha.
