Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince International Trailer

I’ve mentioned previously that the Harry Potter franchise is starting to feel a bit tired to me at this point, which is not really a good thing when there are still 3 more movies to go (the last book will encompass two films). I will say, though, that if the remaining films can focus strictly on the main story arc involving Harry and Voldemort, and avoid any of the piddly side plots with annoying teachers, they might yet be able to pull me back in.

A new international trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hit the web over the weekend, and I must admit it looks pretty damn epic. Heck, just from the clips they show, you’d think it would be on par with The Lord of the Rings movies, and a lot of the goofy kid stuff is starting to fade away (or at least being held back from the trailer). Either way, I’m sure Warner Brothers will spare no expense to ensure that this is the must-see movie of next summer. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theatres on July 17th, 2009; check out the new trailer below.

  1. The video is M.I.A. now but we’ll see it soon enough.

    Ok.

Sean, I understand how the movie feels like it avoids Voldie conflict. Back before I read the books (I saw the films all the way up to Goblet of Fire) I thought the same thing (and still do). I’ll just state it again: you have to read the books to understand the phenom. Some of the greatest character writing I’ve ever read! Most characters are actually 4-D and you feel the elusive grasp of Voldemort all over the place.

Mind you I’m not one of those asses that always thinks “the books are better” like the two mediums are incomparable. I used to think HP was kinda lame too…until I read it.

If you still deny yourself the pleasure I’ll go ahead and note that the Book 7 movies will not feel like the Scooby Doo/Power Rangers style of same-story-every-time bit. You barely see the school or a wicked new teacher in the 7th book.

  2. The books are great and I like the movies too, but they have a difficult task in pleasing both readers of the books and newcomers. They do capture the atmosphere very well though. But this new trailer doesn’t cut it for me. I hate the little snippets from the previous films – they feel like placeholders for effect-shots.

  3. Ok, saw the vid. Love the added bit: “But I am The Chosen One.” *slap*

    Worthy of Rowling.
