George Clooney is for The Birds?
With the official trailer for the new Friday the 13th being released last week, one can’t help but wonder about the status of another previously announced Platinum Dunes remake: Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Yes, it’s another perfect example of a classic that probably shouldn’t be touched, but at this point we’ve just got to accept that it’s happening whether we like it or not. A more interesting question is, what would it take to get you interested in a new version of The Birds? What if it didn’t star the usual unknown young model types but rather some actual A-list Hollywood talent? Like, say… George Clooney. Would that change your mind?
Well, there’s a rumour going around right now that Clooney is indeed being considered for the male lead in the film, which is lawyer Mitch Brenner. With Naomi Watts also previously rumoured to star in the remake, it seems like the project might be gaining a little bit of clout. Granted, the Clooney rumour isn’t from the most reliable of sources; Starpulse claims to have heard it from the original Mitch Brenner, Rod Taylor (who was quite pleased with the choice, incidentally). But assuming it was true, I think a decent cast could go a long way to convincing people of its potential. Let’s face it, a remake of The Birds probably wouldn’t play so well to teen audiences anyway, so they might as well make it a little bit higher class and try to draw in the adults who may have seen it back when they were kids. What do you think, could Michael Bay’s production company actually turn out a respectable remake after all?

Actually, this is one classic that (I think) could be remade (for some reason I haven’t come up with yet). That made for TV 90’s bullshit didn’t cut it.
I saw a 3-D scene from The Birds at Universal Studios when I was a wee lad. If anything is good for 3-D this is! Have you ever seen a crow within 20 ft? Really large and scary. Plus it would be hard to fuck up CG birds.

Posted by martha on October 28th, 2008I think it’s cool to have Naomi Watts and George Clooney in the remake of “The Birds” Both are fine actors and can bring some much needed credibility to the Melanie Daniels/Mitch Brenner characters. I’m sorry, I thought “Tippi” Hedren was aboslutely awful in the in the role. So, as far as I’m concerned there is plenty of room for improvement. Now Jessica Tandy and Veronica Cartwright will be tough to replace, and throw in Suzanne Pleashete
