Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans Trailer Starring Rhona Mitra

I thought the first Underworld movie was alright for what it was, but I never did get around to checking out Underworld: Evolution. Now a third Underworld movie is nearing completion and I really couldn’t care less. That said, I know a lot of people are big fans of the series, and this doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would. Both director Len Wiseman and star Kate Beckinsale are nowhere to be found, but with Rhona Mitra stepping into the lead role, I’m sure most fans will be happy. Heck, she looks so much like Kate Beckinsale when she has those glowing blue eyes that a lot of people probably won’t even notice!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a prequel, as the title implies, and it explains the origins of the age old conflict between vampires and werewolves. Creature designer and special effects man Patrick Tatopoulos is making his directorial debut here, but he seems to be maintaining the slick, Matrix-inspired slow-motion battles that the series is known for. I guess if you’re not tired of that kind of thing yet, it will probably satisfy you. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans hits theatres on January 23rd, and looks like the kind of movie will still do well in the cold winter months. Check out the full trailer below, or head over to Apple and watch it in Quicktime HD.

  1. FYI: Rhona Mitra will not be taking over Kate Beckinsale’s role. This will be set before Kate Beckinsale’s character ever came into the picture.

As a fan of the Underworld movies, I am excited for this. It will be nice to see the origin of the feud.

  2. This looks terrible. Underworld 1 and 2 were both horrible movies. Likely though, it will lead to a fourth movie.

  3. Looks alright. I didn’t think the other two were that bad. Entertaining enough and well made on a technical level.
I’ll probably see this on DVD like the others.

  4. Rhona Mitra = Lara Croft Tomb Raider (original)

  5. Okay, Sean: If you only saw the first ‘Underworld’ movie, you shouldn’t be judging how the next movie will turn out, because if you didn’t like it, then obviously you shouldn’t be judging these kinds of things. It’s true that we all have the right to our own opinions, but yours seems a little biased, and therefore I have to disagree with you.

I myself am excited for the next movie, and while I am watching it with other fans in the theaters, you should curl up on your couch and watch ‘Twilight,’ or something that you might rather watch instead.

    Peace.

  6. This one is my favorite of all of them top film.
