Wendy and Lucy Trailer Starring Michelle Williams

Although Michelle Williams is still probably best known nowadays as one of the former stars Dawson’s Creek, over the years she has been steadily building up an impressive resume of performances in smaller independent films. She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Brokeback Mountain in 2006, and it probably won’t be long before she is nominated again. Could Kelly Reichardt’s Wendy and Lucy be the movie that puts her over the top?
Wendy and Lucy is one of those films that seems to rest completely on the shoulders of its lead; a character study that apparently packs an emotional wallop. Williams plays Wendy Carroll, a woman who is down on her luck and decides to move to Alaska with her dog for a summer job. When her car breaks down along the way, however, things only seem to move from bad to worse. Lucy, in case you hadn’t guessed, is actually her dog, leading one to believe that this movie could be like a much more heartbreaking version of Year of the Dog. Wendy and Lucy played at TIFF last month, and it is now headed for a limited release on December 10th after being picked up by Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s Oscilloscope Pictures. This looks like the kind of film for me. I’ve never heard of a film with a woman and a dog as central characters. I hope the dog has a good role. I wonder if a dog can get nominated for an acting Oscar.
The screenplay title of my love triangle idea between two guys and a dog was going to have a similar type of title with three names.

This looks good, but I have to admit– if the dog dies, I’ll have trouble with it.
I’m just gay like that.
