Will Ferrell to Play George W. Bush on Broadway

With Oliver Stone’s W. hitting theatres this weekend, and the U.S. election mere weeks away, it seems like everyone’s got Bush on the mind right now (and I mean that in the most harmless way possible). But if Josh Brolin’s portrayal of George W. doesn’t sit well with you for some reason, there’s another actor who is apparently taking a shot at doing the man justice: Will Ferrell!

Ferrell will be making his Broadway debut in January with a play called You’re Welcome America. A Final Night With George W Bush., which will be directed by his partner in crime Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers). It appears that the performance will be completely solo, with the script likely being a collaboration between Ferrell and McKay. The production is expected to open to the public on February 1st at the Cort Theater, and run until March 15th. Man, I would love to see this… it might even be worth making the trip to NYC. This wouldn’t be the first time that Ferrell has portrayed Bush Jr., however… just check out the embedded SNL sketch below for a taste of what’s to come.

  1. I would love to see this.

Josh Brolin’s portrayal of W. really was incredible. The hyperbole is pretty much deserved. Or not, because I guess the definition of hyperbole precludes its appropriateness. But whatever. Like they did with Heath Ledger’s Joker from earlier this year, the critics got it right. Brolin’s performance will be discussed long after the so-so film disappears from memory; it rivals Will Ferrell’s idiotic man-child take on Bush.
