Weekly Poll: Which Upcoming Video Game Movie Will Suck the Least?

It seems that every time a new movie based on a video game hits theatres, the discussion at some point turns toward the question of whether or not there will ever be a video game movie that doesn’t suck. It looks like John Moore’s take on Max Payne won’t be the first to buck the trend, but I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the video game adaptations that are in the works to get some opinions on which one holds the most potential. For the poll I stuck to movies that are currently confirmed to be in active development, although there at least a handful of others that are rumoured to be in the works. Go ahead and cast your vote, and then feel free to discuss many of the other possibilities in the comments below.

  1. I don’t do video games, but I’ll go with Prince of Persia based entirely on Jake Gyllenhaal’s presence. I probably still won’t pay to see it in theatres, but he looks HOT in the set pics that have already been leaked. :)

  2. sean, wait till you see Max Payne, I saw it last night, you are will most likely hate it, it’s irritatingly bad.

  3. I was invited to see a midnight showing of Max Payne last night and decided to go and see it. I’m not suprised with the Rotten Tomatoes score as it is THE worst film I’ve seen this year. Although, I haven’t seen the House Bunny. Count how many times they break down doors or see fuckin flashbacks to prevent you from going to sleep in this POS.

  4. I certainly have high hopes for Bioshock. The setting that takes place in the game is already such an awesome and beautiful world if they could just recreate that then it would be half way there.

  5. I went with Onimusha seeing as how its being written and directed by Silent Hill’s Christophe Gans. And being a Silent Hill fan, i thought it was the most faithful video game adaptation yet! Not a perfect film, but i thought it was very entertaining

  6. I see you wisely omitted a “They will all suck” option because that would be 100% on this poll if it were there.

  7. I have hopes for a good time with Prince Of Persia only because of the people involved. Doesn’t hurt that a friend of mine is playing one of the lead villains in it. So I’ll definitely see that one.

Bioshock could be good as well.

  8. As a die hard of the Max Payne games, I’ll have to go see it to give true representation of what is all about. I’m guessing that the major fault is miscasting.

Cronefly….I agree. Silent Hill was good in attempting.

Tomb Raider could have worked, but for some reason didn’t. That is what I think is the major problem with video game to movie adaptations is that the blanks are filled in for you. You’re imagination is stifled when you are watching somebody else’s interpretation.

The HALO movie should be interesting and hopefully break this trend of shortcomings.
