Film Junk Weekend Wrap-Up: Oct. 12, 2008

Another big week of casting rumours and a few more solid announcements including David Cronenberg signing on to direct Denzel Washington in a cold war spy thriller and confirmation of a Get Smart sequel. Josh Brolin is reportedly close to reaching a deal to play Jonah Hex, while Ryan Gosling was rumoured to be the top choice to play Green Lantern. Meanwhile, the first pics of Robert Downey Jr. in his Sherlock Holmes get up hit the web this week, and for some reason Empire Magazine felt it necessary to compile a list of the 500 greatest movies of all-time. Anyone want to take a crak at the top 1000?!

Cripes. Empire Magazine is a joke. Their intense focus groups couldn’t think of 500 movies better than Superman Returns and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace?
Dumb dumbs.
Posted by Joel on October 13th, 2008Also, I don’t know what kind of scrill’ you’re pulling in from the ads, but can you please deny that loud, automatically playing You Don’t Mess With the Zohan ad on the main page?
Posted by Joel on October 13th, 2008Seriously, that Empire List is terrible. You could go on forever with this, but… The Dark Knight is better than any Kubrick film? Give me a break.
Posted by Derek on October 13th, 2008Well at least The Crazies has Scott Koser involved with the script, as well as Romero producing. I liked The Machinist, but then again he did write TCM remake, and that other one i forget the name. I like the original Crazies and i wouldn’t really mind seeing a remake. Although i wonder how its going to be handled. I hope they don’t try ride the 28 days/weeks later wave…I have always thought of those films as more extreme versions of The Crazies.
