Weekly Poll: What is the Best Bill Murray Movie?

Whenever a new Bill Murray movie comes out, it’s usually something worth getting excited about, and although the jury’s still out on his new movie City of Ember, I thought it was only appropriate that we look back on his filmography this week and decide once and for all what his all-time career high was. Was it one of his classic comedies from the 80s, or was it one of the many indie dramedies he did after Wes Anderson rescued him from mediocre roles? Cast your vote in the poll below!

Thank you for this poll. I think I way underappreciated Murray’s movies. Seeing some of his best one’s here, illuminates how noteworthy his career has been, and he’s still going strong. I was always more of a fan of his lightheared stuff, and I still am. But the guy’s got some serious acting chopps too. I gotta go with Kingpin here, because Murray made me laugh more in that movie than any other.
Posted by Matt on October 10th, 2008They are all good Murray roles!!!! It was hard to choose. i just went with The Life Aquatic. I mean shit, i can’t help but think back on every one of those movies listed, i remember them all being really good. i had a hard time picking. And he was pretty damn funny in kingpin, but The Life Aquatic just really floats my boat. oh wow….shit.

Gotta be Kingpin with Groundhog Day and What About Bob? close behind … I would have like to have seen The Man Who Knew Too Little get a chance on this survey … get Broken Flowers off of there .. can we stop sucking Jim Jarmusch’s cock already …
Posted by dirrrtyfrank on October 10th, 2008I considered putting both The Man Who Knew Too Little and Scrooged on it, but Broken Flowers is awesome. I can’t believe no one has voted for it yet!

How did cornenfly manage to press the “sumbit comment” button? God bless his soul. Maybe it was a Fight Club type of suicide, where you’re totally alive afterward. Or maybe he positioned his body in such a way, that after the last line was typed and the trigger pulled, the body would fall in such a way as to click the mouse and to press the submit button.
Sorry, just busting balls here.
Posted by Matt on October 10th, 2008Argh this is tough. I went with What About Bob since it’s mostly Murray that supplies the comedy and I remember it being one of the last comedies I could enjoy with my family so it had a broad appeal. Though most of these are great performances and if I had to give to him for just one scene it would probably be the Rushmore diving board cig in mouth Budweiser trunks cannonball.
Posted by Ian on October 10th, 2008It was a tough call – but I had to go with Caddyshack. And Sean’s right, Broken Flowers is fantastic.
Posted by Dan from New Jersey on October 10th, 2008Wow….tough call. I liked him in “Meatballs”, “Groundhog Day” and “What About Bob?”.
Posted by Baychuk on October 10th, 2008“Meatballs” is my favorite, but I like “Caddyshack” too. Why no “Razor’s Edge?”
Posted by paulm on October 10th, 2008Where’s the love for Broken Flowers? I just watched it again tonight, I had to vote for it. Groundhog Day is awesome too, and I love Lost in Translation, but that’s a shared performance with Scarlett Johansson. I’m not a Wes Anderson fan, and I haven’t seen his other movies in a long time, but Billy Murray overall is pretty damn awesome.
Posted by Ashley on October 10th, 2008Who you gonna call?
Posted by Rian on October 11th, 2008As much as I love so many of these movies, I’ve gotta go with Broken Flowers. Great performance, great film.
Posted by Derek on October 11th, 2008I think Rushmore and Lost in Translation are still his best performances. Groundhog Day is definitely the quintessential Bill Murray movie. All these are great films though. Hey, where’s Scrooged?
Posted by Joel on October 13th, 2008Just clicked Groundhog Day for the fact that you can watch it infinitely. It is one of the Murray movies that couldn’t work w/o him…damn, can’t see any of these movies w/o him actually.
