Twilight Trailer #3

The latest trailer for Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight arrived online last night, this of course being the first movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling young adult books about a group of teenage vampires. This is expected to be the biggest blockbuster planned for the remainder of 2008, but I’m still trying to understand what makes it so damn hype-worthy. I know the books have a huge following, and maybe that’s enough, but movies like Harry Potter are so huge because they go way beyond the hardcore fans.
It’s not that the trailer for Twilight looks bad or anything… it just looks sort of average. There are some impressive fight scenes showcased in it, but it’s clear that the focus is the love story. Around the blogosphere, this is one movie that most fanboys aren’t really raving about, but maybe that’s the key. It’s not aimed at fanboys, but rather fangirls. Sex and the City proved that women can definitely make their presence felt at the box office, and maybe this is another movie where the male demographic simply won’t be a factor. What do you think of the new trailer? Is this movie going to be as big as everyone says it is? Twilight hits theatres on November 21st (incidentally, one week after the male-centric Quantum of Solace).

Ugh.
I resisted the Harry Potter series for a long time because of it’s major audience being teens…particularly teen girls. Having finally given it a try and loving it greatly I decided maybe I should give Twilight a try. I got it on a whim w/o even reading the Amazon preview.
As Jack Slater would say: “BIG MISTAKE.”
Some of the worst writing I’ve ever read! Couldn’t even finish it. There are so many things about the storytelling that are full of colossal shit and phail but the sick to my brain feeling that made me stop was the fact that: practically every page Edward Cullen is on there is some mention of his immense “beauty”. Alright you bitch we fucking remember! The guy is beautiful how are we going to forget that at this point! Bella is clumsy and you told us way before showing us! You deserve a vomit bukkake session you witless slut!
I don’t see how anyone but a girl 16 years of age or younger could like it. In fact, I don’t see how a girl over the age of 16 could be capable of writing something so terrible. Especially when they think it is good enough to publish…then sickeningly enough IT ACTUALLY GETS PUBLISHED! Wow.
More proof that tween girls will buy anything because apparently so few things are targeted at them that even a steaming pile like Twilight can be popular.

“Sex and the City proved that women can definitely make their presence felt at the box office”
In Danmark, Sex and the City was the biggest earning movie over the summer period. Obviously I am embarrased (DISCLAIMAR: but really, what summer blockbuster is better than the other? I didn’t even see the film, it could be beyond imagination), but I think this proves Seans point. Shit like Twilight just might, realtively quietly in North America, make a shitload of money. Idiots are to be found everywhere, they are just worse here, where people are willing to pay them to stop being idiots. I have sympathy for an uneducated american, but I have none for an uneducated dane.
Posted by Henrik on October 10th, 2008Uhh… well my point wasn’t that people are idiots for liking this stuff, but mainly that it’s aimed at a demographic that people forget about quite often. Mamma Mia is also one of the top grossing movies of the year, and I didn’t see many blogs going nuts over that one either.
Posted by Sean on October 10th, 2008I just want to start by saying that the three posters below me are gigantic whiners.
I enjoy Twilight and no I am not a brain dead teenager, as it was so kindly pointed out.
“I’m still trying to understand what makes it so damn hype-worthy.”
It’s hype worthy because it does have a following and it goes beyond the blood and gore that most vampire movies portray. I’m not a blood and guts person and i love the fact that this movie is based on a forbbiden romance.
“I know the books have a huge following, and maybe that’s enough, but movies like Harry Potter are so huge because they go way beyond the hardcore fans.”
Isn’t everyone getting tired of comparing Twilight and Harry Potter? GET THE HELL OVER IT!! they are different. D-i-f-f-e-r-e-n-t. Do you get it now? And Hary Potter doesn’t go WAY beyond the hardcore fan base. And how do ou know that won’t happen with Twilight? Have you been to the future and seen it?
“It’s not that the trailer for Twilight looks bad or anything… it just looks sort of average.”
Well what do you want it to be? I’m actually glad they went for the simple aprouch other then the dramtic over the top trailer that accompy movie with large fan bases.
“There are some impressive fight scenes showcased in it, but it’s clear that the focus is the love story.”
Well no shit sherlock. It is a love story. Trying picking the book up.
“It’s not aimed at fanboys, but rather fangirls.”
And the movie isn’t aimed just for fan girls, I know many guys who read the series they just don’t come right out and say it.
“What do you think of the new trailer?”
Posted by Monika on October 11th, 2008I personally love it for it’s simplisity and all the wonders with it. I don’t care if you don’t see it. Heck I don’t care if you hate it. Everyone’s different. But you don’t need to put down people like this. It’s cruel and wrong. Imagin how a self-conscience 14 year old would feel if she read somthing like this? Get a life.
Sorry I mean the three posters above
Posted by Monika on October 11th, 2008I just saw the trailer the other night while attending Quarantine (which was fun to see with the right audience while completely smashed) but complete shit otherwise. It looks like an ABC Family television show and makes me wonder why they didn’t just turn it into a television series?

Okay. Well i’ve only gotten to the third book. I’ve seen all the trailers. It’s bound to be a best seller. But to all those people who have been bitching. If you have a problem with it, why call her names? what part of her writing makes her a “witless slut”? That makes no sense what so ever.
Posted by cammie on October 20th, 2008I am a teen. I am a 14 year old girl.
Does it suprise you any? why should it? obviously we are the only people who like this so called “shit”.
I rather enjoyed reading this series. It’s full of adventure and romance. i absolutley love vampires and werewolves. thats my opinion though. Don’t bitch at me just because you don’t like these books. i’d much rather you just keep it to yourself.
