Seth Rogen to Make Cancer Funny

Seth Rogen could very well be the busiest guy in Hollywood right now, but apparently that’s not stopping him from seeking out even more new projects. The trades this morning are reporting that Rogen has picked up a spec script from Will Reiser called I’m With Cancer, which he will produce along with his writing partner Evan Goldberg and friend Ben Karlin (writer/producer on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report). Although Rogen will not be taking the lead in the film, he is expected to have a supporting role. (I’m not sure, but I think Rogen and Reiser know each other from working on Da Ali G Show.)
Wow, so… a comedy about cancer. I’m curious to see how well this goes over with audiences. The script is based on Reiser’s own struggle with the big C when he was 25 years old, and I guess we can assume it has a happy ending. Still, it’s definitely a tricky subject to tackle in a comedy, as witnessed by all the resistance to the cancer subplot in the upcoming film Fanboys. I’m a big believer that laughter is the best medicine, but I know that a lot of people may not be able to find humour in this particular topic. What do you think, is the world ready for this movie? Can Seth Rogen pull it off?

Posted by cronenfly on October 10th, 2008Well at 25 did he have nut cancer? If so then I think Jay’s buddy Tom Green already did this a handful of years ago.
Posted by Ian on October 10th, 2008I find this douchebag very annoying and unfunny. That’s just me, I guess. :/
Posted by Baychuk on October 10th, 2008i always loved Rogen’s stuff and Im curious how this will turn out. But im sure this isnt going to turn over good with some audience. Its better though to laugh at things even though they are serious.

Posted by entertainmenttodayandbeyond on October 11th, 2008I just read an early review of Zach and Miri Make a Porno It looks fricken awesome! I love Keven Smith (even Jersey Girl) and can’t wait to see it.
Posted by Matt on October 13th, 2008Harvey Pekar’s My Cancer Year was really funny. So, I think it can be done. From Rogan’s career so far though, I don’t know if he can pull it off. That’s definitely interesting though. Since he survives it, it can totally be pulled off. If he died from it….not so much.
