David Goyer’s The Unborn Trailer Starring Gary Oldman and Carla Gugino

Although David Goyer’s fortunate enough to have movies like Dark City and Batman Begins on his resume, I’ve always thought his work was kind of hit or miss. His directing gigs in particular haven’t been all that spectacular (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible) but I do think he has some clever ideas when it comes to horror and sci-fi even if he can’t always execute properly.

His new movie The Unborn is a straight up horror flick, produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company. Although it looks like he has just ripped off elements from every J-Horror movie to come out in the past few years, I gotta say, I still thought the trailer looked pretty creepy. The basic idea is that a girl finds out she had a twin brother who died during birth, and now he seems to be coming back to haunt her. The movie stars Odette Yustman, Gary Oldman, Meagan Good and Carla Gugino. Check out the trailer below and see if you think it has potential. The Unborn hits theatres on January 9th.

  1. I watched this at work with the sound muted and didn’t feel like I missed anything. Why does Gary Oldman keep taking on movies like this? I suppose in his defense he’s lucky this one is actually being released in theatres, which is not something that can be said of a lot of his other projects this decade (franchise projects aside).

  2. Gary Oldman is one of those actors, for me at least, that will get my ass to see any fucking thing that is released. I would suffer through shittiest of the shit, as long as Gary Oldman is in it, and he at least yells at something or someone, i am there!!!!

  3. Oh, same with me, Cronefnfly. I even make a point of buying the really crappy direct-to-dvd releases because I can never find them anywhere to rent and, let’s be honest, I need them in order to achieve my goal of having all his movies on DVD. It just pains me to suffer through stuff like Tiptoes or Sin and, probably, this movie too.

  4. It’s a terrific trailer! Gary oldman is a great Actor!

  5. 1) What is Gary Oldman doing in this? Did he owe Goyer a favour for Commissioner Gordon? Strange.

    2) This looks like every other J-horror film. Why are the all the same? Why do they always use small children as scare tactics? I’m scared of small children to begin with. I don’t need them having pale skin and no pupils, okay?

    3) Why isn’t the ‘unborn’ the same age as his twin? Why is he a small child?

    4) Lame.

  6. “Why does Gary Oldman keep taking on movies like this?”

What other movies like this has he done?

  7. Despite how dumb the movie seems, I thought there were some pretty neat creatures in this trailer.

  8. The creepy child thing is laughable…has been for like three years now. We need a new wave horror movement (I love horror comedies but we need a new slant on pure horror!)

    Also, Goyer sucks at directing.
