ABC Developing 80s Sci-Fi Series V: The Remake

We’ve been hearing for a while now that the popular 80s TV series V might be making a comeback (creator Kenneth Johnson put out a book earlier this year called V: The Second Generation), and now it looks like this has finally been confirmed. Variety tells us that ABC have picked up the new adaptation, which is being produced by Warner Brothers. The weird thing is, Kenneth Johnson will apparently not be involved. It seems that Johnson may still be developing his own version somewhere else. Are we going to see another network duel like the one that happened with Knight Rider?

At any rate, the ABC remake is being headed up by Scott Peters, creator/writer/executive producer of The 4400. Well, I guess if you have to pick someone else to reinvent V, he’s probably a good choice. The new series will open in much the same way that the original did, with a fleet of alien ships suddenly appearing in major cities across the world. However, the new twist is that the main character will be Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent whose rebellious son gets involved with the aliens. For purely nostalgic reasons, I’m definitely psyched to revisit V, although I’m wondering if it can survive in the current TV climate. Shows like this seem to do best on a specialty channel rather than one of the big networks. Is anyone else looking forward to this?

  1. In my more cynical years I’ve said that the 80’s offered us great stuff like V and Transformers but there was also a lot of crap like V and Transformers. I think it was right before being a dick in the internet became cool. Really one way to make this work: Michael “Capt’n Oliver Hudson” Ironside. I want a shot for shoot remake of the scene where he pours that red powder on one of the lizards gleefully.

  2. Michael Ironside and Marc Singer were badasses on this show.

I need characters like these guys on TV again.

  3. Awesome news….in theory! Ironside was definitely “V” material. I’m really excited for this. Hopefully they dump the cheesy “nazi” schtick from it and use something more modern and relevant.

  4. The invaders should be a UN force that coming into a Middle Eastern country and then it would be like bureaucratic oversight fails because no country can account for the force and “Oh snap” they’re aliens! Who have taken over a country with some natural resource the world depends on and in so doing have carved out a control on the lifeblood of human civilization. It’d certainly be relevant to today. You’d have Michael Ironside be on the front in his Seaquest sub and Singer could rally the natatives of the country (man and beast alike) to rebellion offering a resistance from within.

    Now pay me Hollywood.

  5. Ian….I like the way you think. :D

  6. That makes two of us.

  7. This is the first I’ve heard about this but I think a remake is a grate idea they could defently update the effects like that cheesy lizard birth. but mainly I’d like to see people from the original playing another part like Robert Englund playing the jewish grandad for example Eva Longoria would make a grate Diana and the original who was well fit back then could be the the granny with the shopping trolly who through the petrol bomb in the alien car right behind the 2 that were arresting those three guys. Oh and they’ve gotta find an excuse to put Marc Singer & Micheal Ironside in it

  8. I have some more ideas on casting David Borrenza as the reporter that Marc Singer played. Micheal Chiklis as the guy Micheal Ironside played Kirsten Dunst as the mother of the star child and the original as her mother or if to old the original star child and Zac from Bones as the alien Robert Englund played. I doubt these ideas’ll be considered but it’d be a laugh if they were.

  9. i think it was be wonderful seeing as i loved the original i hope that they bring back some of old characters just to see how their lives been like except for that elizabeth i truly didn’t care too much for her or her character.
