Weekly Poll: What is the Best Mob Movie?

Here we go, another juicy poll for all you Film Junkies to meditate on. This week we’re talking about the best mob/organized crime movies of all time. Clearly it’s a huge genre and there are a lot of amazing films that could go on this list (what is it about crime flicks that make them so damn compelling?). Anyway, I know there are quite a few gems that I didn’t include, so feel free to discuss all your overlooked favourites in the comments below. Don’t forget to cast your vote! As always, we’ll take a look at the results one week later.

Wow. You left off my favorite mob movie of all time: Once Upon a Time in America.
It’s definitely not the “quintessential” mob movie, (that’s Goodfellas, which is a natch to win this poll) but c’mon Sean!!
Posted by Joel on October 3rd, 2008Yeah, I agree with Joel. Once Upon a Time in America has to be on that list! Watch it film junkies. The best mob movie on the list though would probably be The Godfather. The most fun to watch is Goodfellas.
De Palma’s Scarface, although awesome, overshadowed a much more enjoyable film of his which is Carlito’s Way. So 2 mob movies that would be on my top 5 aren’t on here.
Posted by Primal on October 3rd, 2008I voted for for Good Fellas, but my favourite mob movie is Infernal Affairs.
Posted by markusmaria on October 3rd, 20081. The Godfather Part II
2. The Godfather
3. Once Upon a Time in America
4. Goodfellas
5. The Departed
6. Road to Perdition
7. Miller’s Crossing
All are A+ films in my book.
Posted by Jonathan on October 3rd, 2008I don´t mind Goodfellas leading, as I voted for it, but that Godfather leads over Godfather II, that bothers me
Posted by ColinZeal on October 3rd, 2008I almost picked The Godfather because it is literally the best IMO (as it is the most timeless and has the most integrity) but I cheated and picked Scarface because its my favorite and easily the most infinitely watchable mob film I’ve seen.
“(what is it about crime flicks that make them so damn compelling?)”
For me its the fantasy of telling people what to do and having them follow your every word with the power of fear and blasting a room full of thugs with a grenade while coked out of your mind. Which would be way more badass than what I do right now except my family life would be miserable and I’d get shot to death.
Ahh…the thought of putting a horse head on the bed of George Lucas so he’d let me make a Star Wars movie set way after the Original Trilogy is turning into some horrid mob nerdgasm….
Posted by Ryan M. on October 3rd, 2008these two probably dont rate with the others but sexy beast and king of new york are good for you ben kingsley and christopher walken fans.
Posted by wheels on October 4th, 2008King Of New York is a great movie. Still haven’t seen Sexy Beast.
Goodfellas all the way. I want to be different and pick something else, but I can’t bring myself to do it.
Godfather II has the great Robert DeNiro flashbacks, but the original Godfather has the great Marlon Brando. Godfather > Godfather II.
Posted by Rian on October 4th, 2008I personally am surprised by all of your choices. First of all, I have not seen all of these that were on the list so I understand how I only have limited knowledge and I do understand personal preference, but honestly how could you guys not prefer the Departed over these movies. That movie was top-notch for acting….I dont care if you guys dont like Di’Caprio, hatred aside he does an amazing job. Plus that movie was just sooo gut wrenching. I did honestly like Goodfellas, I have not seen it in awhile, thats the one with Ray Liotta in it right?
Posted by Donald on October 5th, 2008No, Goodfellas is the one with Tom Berenger.
Posted by Joel on October 5th, 2008I voted for Goodfellas, but my favourite mob movie is Once Upon A Time In America, hands down.
Posted by ottobud on October 5th, 2008Actually I checked and it does have Ray Liota, as well as Joe Pesci.
Posted by Donald on October 6th, 2008If you like The Departed you should check out Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs) which it is a remake of. Personally I preferred the original though reading subs is always a bit of a distraction. Maybe Casino or Sacrface should be in there, but we could go on forever like this . . .
Posted by Paul Andrews on October 7th, 2008Casino & Scarface are in there sorry !
