I think that with only 2 movies The 28 (Period of time) Later franchise could have given any of the above franchises a run for their money. Maybe 2 movies just weren’t enough to be considered a franchise, but there is a third one on the way. Besides, anyone who thinks that any Exorcist movie besides the first one matters is quite mistaken, dare I say. By that measure Poltergeist might as well be up there (It also had sequels.)

Dawn of the Dead was the peak of Romero's career. He hasn't surpassed that, and that's why, as a series, I couldn't vote for him.

Even though they got really silly, the first Nightmare on Elm Street is a terrific film. I wish the would have stayed slightly more serious throughout.

That seems to be a trend, too. The first Evil dead is the best. As is Halloween, Friday, and Child's Play.

Ultimately it comes down to personal preference, and the NOES series is what I grew up on, and was the first horror series I had ever seen. That's why it gets my vote.

I never got around to voting in this poll because I couldn't make up my mind. I eventually realized that the reason I didn't vote is because John Carpenter's The Thing wasn't an option. True, it's one film and not a franchise, but it's better than everything on this list except for perhaps the combined might of Night, Dawn, and Day of the Dead. The problem with almost every single one of the franchises listed on the poll is that their first installments are good and just about every one of their sequels blows.

There's a real movie magic to ROMERO'S first 3 Dead films that will never be surpassed! I recently wrote a piece about them on my site, after learning he's filming another zombie film. Dawn of the Dead is one of the best films ever made, and I watch it at least once or twice a year.
