DeNiro and Scorsese Reunite for New Mob Flick I Heard You Paint Houses

Well, I think it’s safe to say that the much-anticipated Robert DeNiro / Al Pacino reunion didn’t really pan out. By all accounts, Righteous Kill was about as far from a return to form as you can get, and everyone blamed director Jon Avnet for mishandling these two great stars. If only Martin Scorsese had been in the director’s chair, then maybe we would have had a winner… right? Well, guess what, we’re about to find out if that is actually true, because Scorsese’s lining up a new mob movie and he’s got Bobby DeNiro in mind for the lead role.

Variety reports that Paramount Pictures has optioned the book I Heard You Paint Houses, about the true story of hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, who supposedly carried out over 25 mob hits including Jimmy Hoffa. DeNiro will play Sheeran, and Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Gangs of New York) will pen the script. What do you think, does this sound like something worth getting excited over? The only problem is we may have to wait for Scorsese to finish Shutter Island, Silence, The Last Duel and The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt first! Sheesh.

  1. NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!

    This is gonna be awesome.

  2. didn’t DeNiro die after in 1998?

  3. I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about how Robert DeNiro’s career has been in the tubes lately when I suddenly had this mini-conversation with myself out loud:

“Why doesn’t DeNiro do another movie with Martin Scorcese? They did like 8 movies together and they were all awesome, but they haven’t worked together in the past decade or so. It seems like Scorcese only wants to work with Leonardo DiCaprio these days, which I don’t necessarily mind because DiCaprio is great, but…wait a minute…why doesn’t Scorcese do a movie with DeNiro AND DiCaprio?!”

While that would be pretty damn awesome, I’d settle for DeNiro joining back up with Scorcese in any capacity. I saw Righteous Kill the other day and it sucked with a capital “UCK!”
