Monday Morning Box Office Report: Eagle Eye Rules the Roost

Shia LaBeouf proved once again this weekend that he is a reliable box office bet with Eagle Eye taking the #1 spot by quite a large margin, followed by the Richard Gere/Diane Lane romance Nights in Rodanthe. Lakeview Terrace held onto the #3 spot in its second week, meanwhile Kirk Cameron’s Fireproof somehow managed to earn an astounding $6.5 million. The Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading was #5 with just over $6 mil. Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. Anna was a disappointing #8.
1. Eagle Eye — $29.2M
2. Nights in Rodanthe — $13.6M
3. Lakeview Terrace — $7M
4. Fireproof — $6.51M
5. Burn After Reading — $6.11M
6. Igor — $5.5M
7. Righteous Kill — $3.8M
8. My Best Friend’s Girl — $3.8M
9. Miracle at St. Anna — $3.5M
10. The Family That Preys — $3.16M

I don’t feel like any readers of this site would be desperately curious to see Nights at Rodanthe, but if for some reason they were I just wanted to warn that it’s as terrible as the trailer looked (and the trailer looked pretty bad).

You are right.
I knew Shia would “win” and I bet Spike is pissed.
Posted by Ryan M. on September 29th, 2008Every time I turned on the TV I saw a Miracle at St. Anna commercial. Movie budget was $45 mil. Someone is gonna loose their shirt over that one.
Rodanthe didn’t look good to me by the trailers; I suppose it appeals to older women who want some eye candy with Gere.
I saw Fireproof with the wife and was surprisingly pleased at the mix of drama, comedy, and action. Fireproof takes up the subject of divorce in a serious way, so I don’t think teens or young adult singles will enjoy it that much, but you’d probably like it if married and in your mid-20’s or older.
“Fireproof somehow managed to earn an astounding $6.5 million.” What is more amazing is when you consider Fireproof showed on only 839 screens compared to the 2,300-3,500 screens the other top 8 films were playing on.
Posted by Martin on September 29th, 2008What really ticks me off about Miracle is that it did not even get a real wide release. It did not show up in Saskatoon.
Posted by John A. on September 29th, 2008Yeah it wasn’t playing in St. Catharines either. It only opened in 1100 theatres.
