Judd Apatow Recruits YouTube Star Bo Burnham for Musical Comedy

Who the heck is Bo Burnham? I must be out of touch with the internet, because up until now I had never heard of the guy. Apparently he is a huge internet star, thanks to the multiple songs he has written and recorded, including “My Whole Family“, which has amassed over 2 million views. That’s some serious YouTube action.
Anyway, it looks like Burnham is about to take things one step further than most internet celebrities ever do… he’s about to make the transition to a real-life celebrity! After playing at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, he reportedly hooked up with Judd Apatow who has now landed him a movie deal of sorts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burnham will be writing a musical comedy for Universal (loosely referred to as the “anti-High School Musical”) that he may also star in. Apatow will act as producer. He also recently signed a four-album deal with the Comedy Central’s record label and taped a TV special for the channel. Not too shabby for an 18 year old kid! What do you think, does he have potential to become a bona fide movie star or what?

if theres any internet star that deserves a movie deal it’s neil cicierega and his crew, they really are genius.
Posted by Drew on September 26th, 2008Bo’s pretty good. I have to admit– he could be this generation’s answer to Weird Al Yankovic. And I consider that a compliment.
Posted by Jon Rocks on September 26th, 2008There’s an article in this month’s Wired about how Weird Al is basically the godfather of the YouTube parody video.

Posted by Sean on September 26th, 2008That guy was almost just like Stephen Lynch, except for the SFW topic…

I never thought of that even though it’s so fucking right.
18 years old and this kid has a movie deal! That video wasn’t so bad…I just hope he doesn’t subject us to some insufferable crap.
Posted by Ryan M. on September 26th, 2008And I’d like to add that I HATE the fact that some people get major talent agency representation over parody videos. If some dumb shit on youtube gets a million hits and it is original content then fine but parody videos don’t show that anyone really has talent (in most cases).
Posted by Ryan M. on September 26th, 2008I think he’s unfunny and I can’t wait for the backlash. It’s too early right now, but give it time. He’ll end up as hated as Dane Cook.
Posted by SpikeLee3000 on January 15th, 2009BO Is aHHHmazing and nobody diserves this more than him
Posted by caroline on March 14th, 2009Dane Cook is hilarious i saw him live and he was wonderful. If he was so bad he wouldn’t of had the chance to do anything he has done. Like Saturday Night Live, his Tour, His Movies, etc. So really if Bos going to turn out like Dane Cook hes doing something right. So really stop your hating. And I would like to see be as funny as both those guys. O wait you CAN’T thats right. So back the HELL off “SpikeLee3000″.
Posted by Zach on March 14th, 2009“SpikeLee3000″ you are probably too dumb to understand any of Bo’s jokes, since he’s brilliant and actually has an intelligent sense of humor…. hard for idiots like you to understand his jokes. and Dane Cook plays in arenas for thousands of people- it is pretty obvious he is not hated.
Posted by Taylor on July 10th, 2009Ryan M. u do realize that this is all origional content and that some of the word play is just funny look up some of his other videos this isnt even his best work in my opinion.
Posted by Mike on September 6th, 2009BO BURNHAM ROCKS!!!!HES SO AWSOME HE DESERVES IT!!! KEEP THE SONGS COMIN MAN!
Posted by ak47 on September 15th, 2009Bo Burnham is the best in the world i love him 4e. p.s. i also think dane cook is funny. p.p.s. BO RULES!!!
Posted by I on October 2nd, 2009Ah yes, “intelligent sense of humor.” How intellectually stimulating it is to hear Bo rap about premature ejaculation and teenage awkwardness. I can feel my IQ shooting through the roof as we speak.
Posted by Spikelee3000 on January 11th, 2010For those of you all over Dane Cook’s nutsac you obviously don’t understand or appreciate real comedy. He was alright up until the point he was stealing material from ACTUAL comedians like Louis C.K. You’re probably the same people who think Carlos Mencia is funny.
