George Clooney Wants to Play The Lone Ranger?

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement about Johnny Depp starring as Tonto in The Lone Ranger, the internet rumour mill has already churned up its first candidate for the role of the Ranger himself. Ain’t It Cool News posted a scoop from an inside source who says that George Clooney “has shown a lot of interest in the role of the Lone Ranger, and the studio’s been talking to him about it”. Well, that certainly sounds a lot better than the other name that was supposedly under consideration: Nicolas Cage. (Is it just me or is he involved in every other movie announcement nowadays?)

Obviously this is just a rumour at this point, but we know that Clooney has been in need of a major mainstream hit lately. Do you think this is a good fit for him? My only concern would be that he seems a bit too old for some Bruckheimer-style action sequences, but then again, he’s only two years older than Johnny Depp. Personally I always thought Clooney would have been perfect for The Green Hornet, and let’s face it, both heroes are basically cut from the same cloth. What do you have to say about a possible Depp/Clooney team-up?

  1. I love the Depp/Cloney pairing. They’re both from Kentucky. Bluegrass pride. Now we just need John Carpenter to direct (or Cameron Crowe).

  2. I think it’s a great idea if he keeps his hair like that.

  3. “Clooney would have been perfect for The Green Hornet”

Hadn’t thought of that but its very true.

“I think it’s a great idea if he keeps his hair like that.’

  4. Good lord! Where did that pic cme from?? Is that Roseanne days or Facts of Life days?

I can’t believe the Cloon let those photos exist.

  5. Shouldn’t the LR be played by a man?

  6. hard to believe a talent like Depp would consider working with the lack-luster lush, long in the tooth, lame, wannabe pimp.
haven’t we seen enough of this old jerk? he’s overexposed and over-rated
