Cars 2 Confirmed for Summer 2011

Apparently there was a big Disney press conference in L.A. today and among the major announcements was an official confirmation of the sequel to Pixar’s 2006 movie Cars. We first heard rumours about this last year courtesy of Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson. It turns out he knew what he was talking about. Originally they were planning to release the movie in 2012, but now it has been bumped up to summer 2011 instead.
This means Pixar’s release schedule for the next four years now looks like this:
- 2009: Up
- 2010: Toy Story 3
- 2011: Cars 2
- 2012: John Carter of Mars
John Lasseter will not be directing Cars 2, instead the position will fall to Brad Lewis, who was producer on Antz and Ratatouille. Apparently the story will have something to do with different cars from around the world… can’t wait to hear all the stereotypical accents they come up with for this. They will also help promote the movie with a series of animated shorts called “Cars Toons” (ha… get it?), to be shown on the Disney Channel and possibly in theatres.
Cars was by far my least favourite Pixar movie, and I can’t say I’m too excited about this sequel. After the direction they’ve been heading with their last two movies, this just seems like a massive step backwards. Thoughts?

Car= worst pixar movie ever!
Posted by theman on September 24th, 2008It’s the Disney Showcase, and they also announced a far more interesting project than Cars 2 (because, let’s face it, ANYTHING is more interesting than a Cars 2 announcement…): a 4th pirates of the caribbean movie (or is it 5th? I really don’t follow pirates) and a Lone Ranger flick, both starring Johnny Depp. I’m sure by now you’ve heard, though… I wonder if there’s any Lone Ranger fanboys out there?

Absolute shit.
Posted by Jon Rocks on September 24th, 2008Cars is Pixar’s worst film (just a smidge behind A Bugs Life). This movie doesn’t need a sequel. Actually Toy Story 3 is wholly unnecessary as well. I don’t like that Pixar are starting to sequalize their films. (although I did quite like Toy Story 2).
