Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau to Reteam for Ralphie’s Directorial Debut Couples Retreat

Ever since Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau catapulted themselves to stardom with their indie hit Swingers in 1996, they have managed to continue working together quite frequently over the past decade — this despite the fact that their career paths have gone in totally different directions. Favreau is now best known as the director of the summer box office smash Iron Man, meanwhile Vaughn became a huge comedy star as a member of the so-called “Frat Pack” along with Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, and Owen and Luke Wilson. Now it has been announced that they will be re-teaming on screen yet again for a movie called Couples Retreat… their fifth movie together (yes, Favreau is also in the upcoming Four Christmases).
The interesting thing here is that the movie was written by Favreau himself, his first original screenplay since 2002’s The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest (which I hadn’t even heard of, to be honest). On top of that, Vaughn and Favreau’s good friend, producer, and former star of A Christmas Story, Peter Billingsley will be making his directorial debut. Sounds like a fun little project among friends. Jason Bateman and Faizon Love will also co-star in the movie, which is about a couple who go to a tropical island resort for marriage therapy. I know what they’re up to here, it’s the same trick that they used in Forgetting Sarah Marshall: set the movie in a swanky locale and turn the whole shoot into a vacation! Either way I’ll be looking forward to this, and hoping it kickstarts a new career for good ol’ Ralphie. Couples Retreat starts shooting next month.
