Rambo V Pretty Much Confirmed

After Sylvester Stallone initially poo-pooed the idea of another Rambo sequel, and then reportedly signed on to direct and star in two more unnamed action movies, it looks like we may finally have confirmation on what many had already suspected. One of these unnamed action movies is indeed a fifth Rambo flick! I guess part 4 wasn’t the end of the line for John Rambo after all.
The Hollywood Reporter recently did a piece on some of the upcoming projects from Lionsgate, and among them Rambo V is listed plain as day:
“On the development horizon are “Warrior,” which Gavin O’Connor co-wrote and will direct; “Conan,” a fast-tracked project with multiple scripts in the works; “Severance Package,” with Brett Simon writing and directing; “Rambo V,” to be written and directed by Sylvester Stallone; “Korean Wedding” from writer Jason Filardi; and “Kane & Lynch,” a video game adaptation that will star Bruce Willis.”
Well, as much as I am worried that a fifth Rambo might be pushing his luck, I have to admit that I will be first in line to see it when it comes out. Based on how the last movie concluded, it seems likely that this installment will bring Rambo back to the good ol’ U.S. of A., and I’m curious to see where Stallone might take it from there. At the very least, I suppose Rambo can withstand another sequel a lot better than Rocky could. As long as Stallone does not attempt a Rocky 7, I will be more than happy to just keep my mouth shut. What do you think, is Rambo V a good idea?

I think Rocky needs to be left alone; but the news of a new Rambo doesn’t really hurt. The thing about Rocky Balboa and Rambo is that they sort of made up for the shit sequels and solidified the fact that Stallone is actually a solid director and not just some meathead.
I was happy with Rambo and the only thing disappointing about it was the fact that he never took his shirt off (and I say this as a heterosexual male)! He just needs to get rid of that gut and Rambo five is go. Also they need to go with the ending that Morrell’s first (and only) book had: Rambo goes genocidal (more than usual) and dies. That’s the only ending I see fitting at this point.

Oh No, Sean. Part Three was pushing it. Part Five’s luck is way over the cliff, rotting, bloated, and gangrene. Much like Stallone. Rambo 4 was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had watching a movie. To me it didn’t feel like a over the top action film that you shouldn’t have to take seriously. The conflict portrayed is a real conflict with real people killing and being killed. Stallone didn’t make this movie to raise awareness of the conflict in Myanmar. He wouldn’t have used-borderline pornographic violence, if that was his goal.
Posted by Matt on September 11th, 2008I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me and personal baggage, I don’t think i’ll be checking out any further Rambo sequels.
Part one was definitelly the best. Didn’t know it was based on a book. Thanks Ryan. I’ll have to check that out.
Wow, this news is the best September 11 Day present ever! Thanks Sylvester Stallone! Happy September 11 Day everyone!

Posted by Lee on September 11th, 2008Um, Sean. You might want to correct that typo at the end of your blog entry.
“What do you think, is Rocky V a good idea?”
Just so you know.
Posted by ShenEvil44 on September 11th, 2008Fixed. Thanks buddy.
Although if anyone wants to talk about whether or not Rocky V was a good idea, be my guest.
Posted by Sean on September 11th, 2008I’m so excited. I hope that this next one has him shooting guys from a stationary gun for another hour and a half. And no, sadly I’m not joking.
Posted by Paul on September 12th, 2008I would be more than happy to co-write Rambo V. Sly just have to give me a chance.

Posted by KG on September 30th, 2008I have a suggestion for the new Rambo V movie. Instead using the ‘V’ to indicate that this will be Rambo’s fifth movie.. why not give a title after the name ‘Rambo’. Actually, this title should be used for ‘John Rambo/Rambo IV’ (2008). I’d named it ‘Rambo Unleashed’ as there is no Mr. Colonel around to tame him. ” Rambo Unleashed” How’s that?
Posted by Rushdan Rashid on November 12th, 2008First Blood (1982); then Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985); then Rambo III (1988); and John Rambo/Rambo IV (2008); after this “RAMBO UNLEASHED” (2009) and “RAMBO ASSAULT” (2010). How’s that?
Posted by Rushdan Rashid on November 12th, 2008As much as I loved First Blood and Rambo III, I’m not to sure that Stallone can still do everyting he could in 1982. Rocky Balboa sucked, so that may mean that Stallone is losing his touch to make it look like he knows what he’s doing. But if Rambo V is as good as the original, then we’re in for a real treat.
Posted by Mike on November 20th, 2008Rocky Balboa didnt suck, it ws the best since the original. And likewise with Rambo. Yes its Graphic, but that raises awareness of wats happening everyday. Rather that watch ’saw part55′ and squirm excitedly in our seats at the gruesome fun, we can watch Rambo and get a more real & disturbing wake-up call.
Posted by russ on December 3rd, 2008I would welcome another rambo movie purely because the last one did not conform to the teenage-friendly watered down formula of recent action movies. War is violent and such be depicted as such. “Rambo 4″ also opened many people’s eyes to what is going on in Burma and its sad but true that it takes a something that was never going to be taken seriously in the first place to do that. Though i missed Richard Crenna and Jerry Goldsmith’s score i think in Stallone’s hands the film will be uncompromisingly gritty, emotional and entertaining.
Posted by mel johal on January 10th, 2009Yes of course, everyone is really looking forward for this so called the last series of Rambo. I guess Rambo V will be much more thrilling and entertaining. I bet all the fans of Sylsvester Stallone will like it whether the movie is nice or not. I am a fan of Rambo and I watched all his Rambo movies (1-4) at least 3 times in theatres. If u really don’t like Rambo movies than you wouldn’t be visiting this site or rather spending your time writing the comment……..right?
Posted by Bala on February 6th, 2009Rambo 4 was a gritty, real action film that most people find hard to comprehend. It was intelligent and happened to become a film that made people open their eyes to the genocide in Myanmar. It lacked the silliness and unreal action that was in rambo 2 and 3, yet i believe that this nostalgic view of those fims clouds their ability to state which of the rambo films are better. If Rambo 5 has a good plotline and delves into John Rambo’s character (just as in rambo 1 and 4) then trust sly stallone to make a cracking movie.
Posted by zak on March 1st, 2009Rambo IV was one of the best films from the series. Now I had to watch part one to make sure that I was not replacing First Blood for Rambo IV as the best of the series. I think that the first one still captures the character and it makes it much more unique. Rambo IV makes him to be a troubled mind but still has a heart under all of that madness. Rambo 2 and 3 were just not the type of movie that will make you think about the problems around them. It was more of a film star than a story character. If you noticed that both 2 and 3 he was mainly with no shirt mostly to impress the ladys and sell tickets, but 1 and 4 were deep and really focused on the situation and why it is happening. The first movie gave me chills when I revisited again and watched the last 10 minutes while he was in the police station talking to his commander. “Nothing is over! Nothing!” a very troubled mind…
