New Line Picks Up Romantic Comedy Based on NHL Star Sean Avery

Well this has got to be one of the weirdest concepts for a movie I’ve heard in a long time. NHL star Sean Avery (formerly of the New York Rangers, now signed to the Dallas Stars) is known as a pest and a tough guy, and is widely considered to be one of the most hated players in the league. And now he’s about to give the opposition a lot of ammo to use against him, because he has made it known that in addition to being a goon on the ice, he also really likes fashion. No, seriously. He likes it so much that this past summer he served as an intern at Men’s Vogue Magazine, and now New Line has decided to make a movie about his experiences there.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stan Chervin (Around the World in 80 Days) has been hired to write a romantic comedy based on this premise. I guess I can see it being an interesting fish out of water story (not unlike The Devil Wears Prada and How To Lose Friends and Alienate People) but who is this movie appealing to… men or women? I guess both if they’re lucky. In the past Avery has dated both Rachel Hunter and Elisha Cuthbert, and also appeared on People’s Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive list for 2007.
He had this to say: “I think it’s great to be into something that you care about… but I’m still an athlete who likes to beat the crap out of people.”
