I really didn't like the first Shrek. I Hated the second one, and completely lost interest in anything Shrek-related thereafter. I'm still shocked by the kind of numbers this franchise is still able to pull at the box office. I feel like this cash-cow's gonne keep giving milk for a long time to come. It kind of reminds me of all of those completely unfuny spoof movies like Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc. I'm happy that Disaster Movie opened all all the way down at #7 this weekend.
Sorry to digress. Anyway. There is a reason why Finding Nemo isn't getting three sequels. It's because the story that they wanted to tell, Pixar told in one movie.
I hope this Shrek has a sci-fi twist to it and they "spoof" sciencetology. That would at least be somewhat interesting.
As for Tom Cruise's career being back on track. I doubt it. Although I liked him in Tropic Thunder, I did so not because he was particularly funny, but because I thought to myself "Isn't that that formerly respected actor? Look at what crazy thing he's doing now." I guess his strategy is to show people that he is not completely uptight and weird, and that he can have fun and not take himself too seriously. But imo he runs the risk of doing that the rest of his movie career. I'm sure he doesn't want producers thinking "Hey, let's get Tom Cruise in here and make him do something stupid." No, I don't think Tom is going to reach a popularity level, that he enjoyed in the 80s and 90s. I don't thinks anybody is. But what do I know.
I also don't think another movie will come out that is serious, has Tom Cruise as it's star, and is a box office success.
