Open Forum Friday: What Are Your Most Anticipated Fall Movies?

Well as much as we don’t want to admit it, the 2008 summer season is all but over, and within a week or two all the kiddies will be back in school. Which of course means that it’s time for the brainless blockbusters to start exiting the multiplexes only to be replaced by serious dramas and would-be Oscar contenders. While that may seem like a depressing idea to some, I am actually really looking forward to it — I think I’ve had my fill of special effects extravaganzas for this year.
That said, there are still some big budget event movies that lie ahead in the coming months, and a number of other high profile projects, so I thought now would be a good time to discuss the most anticipated movies for the remainder of the year. Is the new Bond movie Quantum of Solace something you’re dying to see? Maybe the Coen Brothers’ comedic follow-up to No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading. Teen vampire movie Twilight? Or what about the one 2008 comic book movie that is still to come, Punisher: War Zone? Sound off in the comments below with your list of fall movies you can’t wait to see. Give us your thoughts here on Open Forum Friday!

Burn After Reading – YES! Aside from Smart People, In Bruges and Definitely, Maybe, there haven’t been any strong AND smart comedies this year, so I’m siked about it.
Taken – Yes, Liam Neeson’s a badass and it’s about time they showed it, this flick looks great.
Eagle Eye – Kind of, this could either be pretty good or horrible, but it seems like a decent suspense/action flick.
Choke – Yes, for the obvious reasons.
What Just Happened – Yes, I saw a clip of the Bruce Willis/Robert De Niro scene touched on in the trailer and really loved it.
Rachel Getting Married – Yes, I think this will get Hathaway a much deserved Oscar nomination, when she slaps someone in the trailer it gave me chills how well it was done.
Doubt – I’m a sucker for anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman so I’m watching this regardless of its reviews.
W. – YES! This is tied with 007 as the film I want to see the most this year, I cannot wait.
The Brothers Bloom – Oh yeah, Rachel Weisz and Adrien Brody? Count me in on opening day.
Zack and Miri – Maybe, I’m unsure as to how funny it could be…we’ll see.
RocknRolla – Despite mixed reviews, it looks like a decent Guy Ritchie film with plenty of ridiculous dialogue.
Quantum of Solace – YES! Daniel Craig is the best bond since Roger Moore and putting him with Gemma Aterton and Olga Kurylenko as the Bond Girls is a recipe for a badass film.
Frost/Nixon – I feel like I should be excited about this, but I’m not, I probably won’t watch it until I can rent it.
Milk – Yes, I don’t know why but the cast and the powerful story behind this really attracts me to it.
I think those are all the Fall films, the latter may be Winter but I think I’m close enough.
Posted by Homero on August 29th, 2008Hmm, maybe Max Payne, Igor, and Eagle Eye. They could all be awesome, or incredibly embarrassing.
Posted by Matt on August 29th, 2008Choke, Burn, Button & The Miracle of St. Anna.
Also, if you are anywhere near Toronto and haven’t seen it yet, I recommend “LET THE RIGHT ONE IN” a Swedish vampire flick that is going to blow Twilight out of the water for discerning genre-fans. It’s been winning some major fest prizes (even non genre fest like Tribeca where it took best picture)
Posted by kurt on August 29th, 2008Believe it or not, I’m excited for the “Friday the 13th” remake. I don’t know why– platinum dunes’s reputation is pure shit. But still, I hope it’s good.
Also, I’m looking forward to both Jim Carrey projects– “The Yes Man” and “I Love You Phillip Morris.”
And Brad Pitt looks really annoying in “Burn After Reading.”

Daniel’s Craig’s 2nd attempt at being Bond…Quantum of Solace…

*Waits for the Saw trailer to say, “ISN”T THAT FUCKED UP?*
Posted by Mitch on August 29th, 2008The 3 B’s – Burn after Reading, The Brothers Bloom, The Curious of Benjamin Button.
Posted by Primal on August 29th, 2008Burn After Reading, Benjamin Button, Choke, Pride and Glory.
Posted by Tania on August 29th, 2008burn after reading looks great…However, after the shitstorm that was INDY 4 I have decided not to “anticipate” any film ever again higher then a 2 on a scale of 1-10. fucking lucas.
Posted by Bob the Slob on August 29th, 2008I would say Harry potter but we all know that’s not going to happen until summer. Everything else is a toss up. I like Oscar worthy films in the fall.
Posted by Orren Jensen on August 30th, 2008Rocknrolla, closely followed by Burn After Reading.
Posted by Rian on August 30th, 2008The new series of The Ricky Gervais Show trumps any of these movies!
Posted by Henrik on August 30th, 2008I wish Max Payne well. :/
Punisher….well, I think that will bomb. The trailer seems to show the best bits.
Posted by Baychuk on August 30th, 2008TWILIGHT WILL BE AWESOME!!! I LOVE THE BOOKS AND CANT WAIT FOR THE MOVIE!!!=)
Posted by maddison on August 30th, 2008I’m looking forward to Burn After Reading, Zack and Miri make a Prono, Max Payne (bracing for the worse, but hoping for the best), and RockNRolla (looks a lot like Snatch, I hope its even half as good).
Posted by HollywoodDream on August 30th, 20081.The Road
2.The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
3.Burn After Reading
4.Good
5.Choke
Overall The Road is something i am really looking forward to. I just started the book a few days ago to get ready for the film, and it is a very bleak and beautiful story so far. I loved The Proposition and cannot wait to see Hillcoat’s interpretation of the road. I really think that with his gritty film making style, he should literally be able to transfer the grainy imagery presented in the book to the screen with out any complications what so ever.
Posted by cronenfly on August 30th, 2008Quantum of Solace is the only movie I’m really excited to see.
Posted by Steven C. on August 30th, 2008Transporter 3!
Then Burn After Reading, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and Choke if that goes wide.
Posted by Ryan M. on August 31st, 2008OMFG TWILIGHT IS GOING 2 BE AWESOME I CAN’T WAIT YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Um, OK, I made it to the party late, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing some lower key films in the theater. Although I actually enjoyed most of the movies I saw this summer, I definitely need a breather from all these blockbusters.
That said, I am looking forward to Quantum of Solace, and I just don’t understand Film Junk’s aversion to Casino Royale. It’s a low down dirty shame.
