Monday Morning Box Office Report: Aug. 11, 2008

Well, another week and still no one can catch The Dark Knight at the box office. If The Mummy 3 had opened this week, it probably would have taken the #1 spot, but as it turns out, Pineapple Express was the closest competitor and it was still a few million short. I’m not sure what the predictions were for Pineapple Express but it didn’t open quite as strong as I expected. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 opened with $10.8 million, good enough for the #4 position, while Step Brothers rounded out the top 5. The X-Files: I Want to Believe has already fallen out of the top 10, while Wall-E hung on to the #10 spot in its 7th week.
1. The Dark Knight — $26M
2. Pineapple Express — $22.4M
3. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor — $16.1M
4. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 — $10.8M
5. Step Brothers — $8.9M
6. Mamma Mia! — $8.08M
7. Journey to the Center of the Earth — $4.86M
8. Hancock — $3.3M
9. Swing Vote — $3.11M
10. WALL·E — $3.04M

I would rather have spent my money on The Dark Knight again than Pineapple Express.
