Natalie Portman to Star in Suspiria Remake?

There’s an interesting development this week regarding the remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, which as we previously reported, is going to be directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, All The Real Girls). According to Bloody Disgusting, the production company behind the remake is Handsome Charlie Films, headed by Annette Savitch and Natalie Portman. It seems that Natalie Portman could very well be the actress who will headline the film, playing the role originally handled by Jessica Harper.
It could be an interesting turn for Portman, especially considering that she has yet to star in any horror movies that I am aware of (I guess the closest thing would be Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks). The involvement of Portman would certainly make it a pretty high profile remake as well, rather than just another low budget knockoff coasting on a familiar name. What do you think, can you see Natalie Portman in the lead role? Are you for or against a Suspiria remake?

What I wouldn’t give to star in her remake.
I don’t know what that means but it sounds filthy.

Posted by cronenfly on August 7th, 2008Star Wars Episodes 1-3, although i did really like 3, but her performance’s in all 3 were horrifying…
I remember hearing about this a while ago. I think it would be cool. I think David Gordon Green would do well with a horror film. And after the Pineapple Express, he’ll be set to blow up big time.
I would be in all the way for a remake. I love the original and have seen it about 3 times, but I still am just not sure exactly what the story is all about. Creepy as hell, though. The visuals and music are enough to make it worth a watch.
Posted by Jon Rocks on August 7th, 2008I wouldn’t have a problem with Portman, I just have a problem with this film being re-made, as Argento is against it. Re-making anything Argento is pointless, as his style is so unique. Argento is always involved in the smallest details of his films, which IMO makes them impossible to be “re-imagined”. (Nice new name for “I’m a hack who is stealing someone’s elses vision”) Argento is a visionary genius who should be revered, not disrespected by Hollywood idiots. Whatever. If it does make it to production, I will be too busy with multiple viewings of “Tenebre” and “Phenomena” to care. I have seen “Suspiria” at least thirty times, many others have doubled that, at least. Let’s see if Green’s “flick” can lay claim to that in thirty years.
He should just re-make “Salo”. I think shit eating needs to be “re-imagined”. I mean, it was the 1970’s too, and people eat shit different in this day and age. Am I being sarcastic? Yes. By the way, I am anti re-makes, being a screenwriter with an original idea to sell. Anyone have Green’s cell phone number??
