Role Models Trailer Starring Paul Rudd and McLovin’

Can Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin’) possibly overcome the odds and carve out a decent career for himself post-Superbad? Sadly, I suspect we all know the answer to that question, which is that the poor guy is doomed to typecasting hell, not unlike a certain other guy who happened to play Napoleon Dynamite. And yet, Mintz-Plasse has scored his next major on-screen appearance in a movie called Role Models, where he plays (get this!) a nerdy kid who wears armour and likes role-playing. Although he is only a supporting character, I have a feeling that all eyes will be on him… unfortunately this is a character we’ve seen a few too many times on screen lately (including one played by Jon Heder, no less).

The good news is the movie might have potential to be decent, since it stars Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott and Elizabeth Banks. It’s also directed by David Wain, the same guy who did Wet Hot American Summer and The Ten. I haven’t seen either of those movies, but I know he seems to have developed a bit of a cult following. Unfortunately, I gotta say, the trailer for Role Models was pretty sparse in terms of laughs. I like the idea of Rudd and Scott playing energy drink salesmen, but having them enroll in a Big Brother program just seems like something out of an Adam Sandler movie. Role Models hits theatres on November 14th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.

  1. The Ten might have been the most unfunny pile of shit I’ve ever seen. That said I think this sounds interesting.

  2. I agree with Wes. The Ten was shit (aside from the Cat Scan Machine segment, which I enjoyed). However, Wet Hot American Summer is an underrated gem. All that aside though? Role Models doesn’t look funny to me at all.

  3. im pretty sure we just saw anything and everything worth laughin in this movie…
having said that im still gonna watch it…im curious to see how rudd n scott’ll to the cliches of ‘being-around-this-kid-has-made-me-a-grown-up’ ala uptown girls, about a boy etc
