Monday Morning Box Office Report: Aug. 4, 2008

It was a tight race, but The Dark Knight reigns supreme at the box office for the third week in a row, just barely edging out The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which had a massive $42.5 million opening. The Dark Knight is now just shy of $600 million worldwide, which is pretty crazy. Interesting to note, however, that The Mummy beat The Dark Knight outside of the U.S. in 26 of 28 markets. Kevin Costner’s Swing Vote was #6 with a $6.3 million opening, and The X Files: I Want to Believe fell all the way to #9 with $3.42M in its second week.

Note: It’s a holiday here in Canada today so there probably won’t be any other posts for the remainder of the day (we will be recording the podcast later on though). So in the meantime, talk amongst yourselves!
