Terry Gilliam to Give Don Quixote Another Shot with Johnny Depp?

If you’ve seen the documentary Lost in La Mancha, then you are well aware that sometimes a major movie can suffer so many setbacks that it just ends up getting completely shut down. Some have said that Terry Gilliam is a cursed filmmaker, because he in particular has had way more than his fair share of movie production mishaps (most recently, Heath Ledger died during the filming of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus). Now, however, seven years after their ill-fated attempt to bring The Man Who Killed Don Quixote to the big screen, it seems that Gilliam and Johnny Depp may be gearing up to give it another shot.

According to Hello Magazine, the two are confident that they will be able to pull it off this time. One big question is whether or not Jean Rochefort would be selected to play Don Quixote again. Back when they attempted the movie the first time, Rochefort suffered a herniated disc and was unable to ride horseback. It seems that his frail condition could still pose problems. What do you think, is Gilliam just a masochist, or is his steadfast refusal to quit what makes him such a great filmmaker? Either way, he certainly will be putting the curse to the test… lets just cross our fingers and hope it pans out for him. (And if it doesn’t, I’m sure it will make for another great documentary!)

  1. If it doesn’t work out then at least we get a sequel for Lost in La Mancha.

  2. I need to see that doc. I feel for Gilliam sometimes; losing your lead in a feature could be a nightmare. Imagine Fear and Loathing without Depp. The horror!

  3. I feel like Lost in LaMancha is so good, having him now make the Quixote picture may take something away from it.
