Marvin the Martian CG-Live Action Movie On The Way

What the…? Apparently we’ve got another one of those “cartoon turned live-action with a CG main character” movies on the way, this time based on the classic Looney Tunes character Marvin the Martian. I remember him most clearly as the villain from the Buck Rogers spoof segments, Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century. Something tells me this flick will be closely based on the Garfield/Alvin and the Chipmunks model, although I will admit to being a little more curious about such a weird concept.
The movie is being described as “a Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he’s trapped in a gift box”. Boo. And here I was hoping it would take place in outer space. Either way, I don’t see how this character could be interesting without Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny or some of the other popular Looney Tunes mainstays. At the very least, he better have his martian dog at his side! The film is still in the early stages of development, and has no writer or director attached yet. Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove (Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) will be producing.

Marvin the Martian was always my favorite Looney Tunes character when I was a kid and after reading about this story on Newsarama last night I spent 30 or 40 minutes watching old cartoons with him on YouTube. That’s probably as much interest as I have to offer a project like this, though. A little nostalgia and some free time spent looking up old clips.
Posted by Rian on July 30th, 2008I don’t see how anyone would rather see a live-action version of any looney tunes character. Films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and SpaceJam were as far as they went in being still hand drawn in a real-life world and I liked that.
I guess I would give this a chance though once I see a trailer or somehthing on it. My favorite looney tunes character has always been Daffy Duck especially his earlier cartoons.
