New To Theatres This Weekend: July 25, 2008

In all likelihood it’s going to be another massive weekend for The Dark Knight as the strong word of mouth brings more people into theatres, but what about Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s latest Step Brothers or The X-Files: I Want To Believe? The truth is, I could see both of them doing rather poorly, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing them. I’m a little disappointed about the fact that American Teen is opening in only 5 theatres though… for a documentary that was being marketed as a mainstream teen comedy, that’s a pretty limited audience. Also in select theatres is the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young concert film CSNY: Deja Vu, British TV adaptation Brideshead Revisited, and the documentary Man on Wire.

Step Brothers. Oh, God, where do I begin? How about this film will only appeal to kids in their early teens.
X-Files….I would see, but it’ll probably turn out as tired as bringing back the series again. May be some good/updated conspiracy things, but on a whole may disappoint. I want to believe that it will reveal some new ideas.
Posted by Baychuk on July 25th, 2008I guess you can consider all of the Film Junk crew as kids in their early teens then.
Posted by Sean on July 25th, 2008So you guys are automatically going to like “Step Brothers”. I can just picture the review….”it sucked!”
Posted by Baychuk on July 25th, 2008I think step-brothers could be a return to form for Ferrell. At least it’s rated R.
Posted by Jon Rocks on July 25th, 2008The thing that is glaringly wrong with “Step Brothers” is the concept of 40-year-old males acting like 10-year-olds. I mean, wow…the dumbing down of America is on the paved road to completion.
