Christian Bale Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Mom and Sister

Amidst all the hype and hoopla surrounding the opening weekend of The Dark Knight, all of the news sites are suddenly jumping on this weird and shocking little bit of gossip involving Christian Bale. It seems that he was arrested in London today and detained for four hours after being accused of assault, before eventually being released on Bale… err… bail. The bizarre thing about the story is that it was his mother and sister who filed the complaint, claiming that he had attacked them at their hotel the day before the European premiere of The Dark Knight. Police waited until after the premiere to deal with the situation so as not to cause a scene, and Bale later turned himself in.

The details of what exactly went on are still not known, but Bale is required to return to British police in September. He was not formally charged. All I can say is, wow… what horrible timing (not that there is ever really a good time to be accused of assaulting your mother and sister). It is unclear what Bale’s relationship is like with his mother and sister, but I think if someone wanted to hurt his career for some reason, this is a pretty good way to do it. I can already hear the speculation about how taking on a tortured character like Batman must have messed with his emotional state. Oh, except that Bale just shot down such theories about Ledger in a recent interview, instead calling it a “complete lack of understanding of acting”. Either way, I hope this turns out to be just a misunderstanding; Bale is a great actor and it always sucks to find out that people you admire are assholes.

  1. i don’t even know what to say. I hope it’s a lie. I hope they just want money and everybody finds out.

  2. This sounds like bullshit to me. I hate to think this way, but my first instinct is that his mom and sister are making a grab at his money, maybe?

Then again, I know absolutely nothing about this situation. I guess I hope it’s a lie, too.

  3. “what horrible timing (not that there is ever really a good time to be accused of assaulting your mother and sister).”

    You’re right.

This news story tickles my fancy. It’s ridiculous enough to be on the top 5 for the year.

  4. Why would they want money? His family is already rich.

  5. Yeah, I’m not sure what to make of this either. The fact that it’s even making rounds is surprising – he’s one of these guys that avoids the spotlight at all costs. I’m sure there’s something more at play here.

  6. He’s innocent until proven guilty! To early to speculate!

  7. Assault in America means somebody kicks your ass. Assault in the UK means that somebody calls you an ass. That’s apparently what it’s all about. Bale cussing out his mom and sister.

  8. They probably deserved it.

  9. Why Christian? Why?

  10. Eddie Murphy should move to the UK.

  11. Verbal Assault is what apparently it was about.

  12. They made fun of his batman voice. “Swear to me!”

  13. It still seems odd for his mother and sister to file a complaint with the police just because he yelled at them.

  14. I hope “Sussudio” by Phil Collins was playing in the background while the assault was going down.

  15. It still seems odd for his mother and sister to file a complaint with the police just because he yelled at them.

Perhaps he called them Jive Turkeys?

  16. Riddle me this why would he want to mess up his career during a foreign premiere of the movies that will get him famous.

  17. too much of a coincidence aint it? that a mum and sister would file a police report when his career is escalating?

something fishy is going on here.
